Description
Warmup sketch/test! Drawing humans is harder than I thought >.< Can't wait to draw more of Elaine & The Gang in some short stories!
Elaine's boots kicked up a soft chorus of dust as she led the way from the barn and to the arena, the smell of hay and the distant neighing of horses playing backdrop to the warm spring day. With a practiced eye, she appraised the mares around her, each one a paragon of equine beauty and strength.
“Bryan, I’ve been thinking…” she began, her voice a familiar tune to his ears, "about expanding, adding more horses for the trails, maybe even hunting rides for guests." She rattled off names of nearby ranches and mentioned some in Canada, the future unfurling in her mind like the sprawling vistas of their land.
Bryan watched her, his gaze taking in the way the afternoon light burnished her hair to a fiery glow. She turned to him, lashes fluttering in that 'pretty please' way of hers, a look he found both maddening and endearing. He knew the look well—the one that preceded her diving headfirst into new ventures, a leap of faith she never hesitated to take. She stood with that all-too-innocent expression, expecting him to leap with her, to bypass the practicalities he was hired to uphold. For a moment, he stood silent, the part of him that was tempered by years of discipline and service wrestling with the warmth her proximity ignited. The ranch had grown under their combined efforts, a testament to both her dreams and his groundwork.
Elaine's eyes held his, a sea of blue persuasion. In them, he saw the wild dreams that drove her, the kind that could scare a lesser man. But he was no such man. A chuckle escaped him, an audible surrender to the tidal wave of her enthusiasm. The sight of her like this—unyielding, radiant, a force of nature in her own right—was a reminder of what he admired most about her. Elaine Hall was not just any woman; she was a maelstrom of passion and conviction.
“Fine,” he said finally, the corners of his mouth curving into a soft smile. Elaine’s face lit up, the victory sparking in her eyes like fireworks. Bryan shook his head, still smiling. For now, he’d follow her into this new dream, the details and logistics waiting for later, in the quiet of the office. Later, when the spreadsheets lay between them, he’d remember this moment—the way her hope reached out like sunlight.
