Description My second ever attempt at digital painting. Based off of this lovely photo of Colin Morgan.

Not sure exactly how long this took. 'Roundabouts seven or eight hours, all told. Maybe a bit more, I dunno, drawing always sucks me into a bit of a temporal vortex.

Drawn on CS2

Oh my gosh this artwork is stupendous. I'm still really learning how to paint digitally and this is really inspiring. What kind of techniques did you use? Like brush or how did you layer the colors? I love the rich purple on his skin. Beautiful work, wow.

*squashes cheeks* I'm so glad you like it! Eehhhh, I didn't really do much special technique, honestly... I had three layers: the picture I based it off of (just to have it for quick reference - my photoshop doesn't like sharing the screen with other windows, it always glitches) and then a sketch layer, and then the actual painting. To paint it, I first blocked out the basic colors (dividing sections by lights and shadows) and then just started building up detail from there. The brush I used was just a round brush with really low hardness. I changed the size and opacity as I needed and just used a HSB color slider to change colors as I painted. I actually took in-progress screenshots... I guess I could post those sometime.
