Description Alrighty this started out as a gift for my Dad. He has a Native America theme running through his living and family room so I thought I would make an American Indian subject painting. Well I have been working on this on and off for a while and think it looks really maternal (obviously) LoL, hope its okay...

Um so I also tried to "challenge" myself with a painting rather than 3D art, cartoon, or stylized art. I think the hard thing is with realism is that every joe on the street is an expert in critic-ing (sp?) it. Whereas most other genres, if someone doesn't like something about it they think "oh those artists are weird" or "that artist did that on purpose." Funny thing is we are and we don't respectively. :-P A couple of the arm ornaments are V3

Well, I actually did do a couple things on purpose with this. Unless you are looking realistically close up, the image looks like it could be one figure. Also even close up the heads are sort of merged--on purpose. This is actually supposed to be more of a portrait of the child, the mother is more of a "BG" if you will.

This picture is actually (and originally) in color, the child's skin is slightly darker than the mother's.
I couldn't fine the "right" BG color, so I am all "ScRew It!"---> Image: Mode: Grayscale, Image: Adjustments: Brightness/Contrast DON'T EVEN TELL ME YOU HAVEN"T EVER DONE THE SAME THING YOU ARTISTS YOU! LoL
So this will probably end up a color re-post sometime.

Anyway I hope you like this. Oh so Ima shout out to those Non-DA people that look at my pictures regularly:
Hi CoWorkers! Hi Mom and her CoWorkers! Hi Dad! Hi Sibs!

Actually I thought it's one figure at first. Well, the boy's expression makes me feel that he's relaxed, relieved in Mom's arms. The bodies look real, how muscles, bones and tendons come is well drawn, which is what I lack. Bangles(is this right? How do you call the decoration rings on her right arm?) are very detailed, I wonder how you did it. Excellent!!

Hehe thanks so much XD and I will have to post the colored one once I figure out a decent BG...

Yeah it is actually huge resolution, so its hard to see brushstrokes here.

The armband actually is based off of a 3D model though.

I love this picture. That hair maelding it a trip. I had to stare at it for a second to pull them apart in my mind. I think the black and white make it very powerful. You did a good job with the realism. So are you going to print it and give it to him? Hopefully not print it at Walmart, though.

Thank you so much Ark. Yeah I'll show it to him and see's if he wants a print out, its not really the style of the other art around his house...I dunno if he's gonna like (?) We'll see...

It shouldn't matter whether he *likes* it or not. As a father, he's required to like it and, at the very least, hang it up on fridge. Right?

The fridge! LOL Right next to Elia's? I like that.

OMG I've got an idea. For a gallery show, buy a ton of refridgerators! Instead of framing pictures, stick em to the fridge with magnets. People will walk down a Sears-esqe row of fridges. OMG that is such a freakin good idea I wonder if I should even put it in a publically viewable spot...

Arkhein In reply to EliaJasmine [2005-07-12 21:53:28 +0000 UTC]

Yanno, that is a brilliant idea. Shhh. Gotta keep it on the QT so nobody hears about it. Hey, you could cut out the middle man and have the showing at a Sears Warehouse Outlet! No gallery fees! Or, I was ensivioning just fridge doors mounted on a gallery wall with the art.
