I traveled to a Renaissance Faire, and to my delight, there was a Raptor Show. This picture is of an American Kestrel, which I'm told is the smallest Falcon.Related content

Ah, thanks! It was a raptor show at a renaissance fair, and it was perched on its keeper's arm wrist. It was injured and couldn't fly anymore, so a humane society was caring for it.

Wonderful closeup of this delightful little falcon. Yes, they are very small, not much larger than a robin. They prey on insects and small reptiles. They're among my favorite raptors. Where I used to live in San Jose, CA, there was a pair of kestrels that nested in a palm tree about three houses from us. We'd see them sometimes, once sitting on a tv antenna on the house across the street. They are small but feisty, I've seen them chase off redtail hawks that got too close to their nests.
