Description Here's my second Banjo assignment from Gary Goldman's class. We animated this shot ourselves and worked as if we were in a production environment. We used x sheets and had to stick to the director's (Gary's) 4-00 frame limit. Please feel free to leave me comments and critiques. All of them are greatly appreciated!

Well, For some people who are Huge Fanatic in the fields of Classical Animation, and Luvs the Short but Sweet Don Bluth Original Film 'Banjo, the woodpile cat', I'd say This Artist and his Friends did a Great job Recreating a Sequence from the Film Itself.
I would say that this Pencil Test is Really a Great Example from One of the Disney's 9 Old Men's '12 Basic Principles of Animation', and something you've Never Ever seen out of Disney that Mr. Bluth was trying to Resurrect.
Well, If I have Nothing else to Say, as a Traditional Animation Fanatic/Activist Myself, this is a Great way of Restoring a Great Deal of the Legacy that was Kept to Us.

Yeah, that was the first time I got to animate a character that was already established. It was quite awesome!

Quite impressive! Although I am not yet well-trained in the art of animation, it is apparent that you are on your way to success....

Magnificent job!

really nice my only crit is that, despite all the anticipatory bouncing, it still looks a little like he floats up instead of jumping. maybe if he pulled more on the rope when he went up?

Thanks! I agree completely. I figured pushing his anticipation would solve that problem. Either way I have to wait to make changes since Gary has my drawings. Thanks for the crit!

Lol, thanks! Yeah, Banjo is a Don Bluth character, so I would hope it looks Bluth esque. If it didn't I would have failed my job, lol.

Wow, I love how bouncy he is.. Is this connected to an old Don Bluth movie?

elipse In reply to ShoJoJim [2008-02-21 02:49:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yes, Banjo The Woodpile Cat is Don Bluth's gang's first film. They created it while working at Disney to get an understanding about the entire process of creating an animated film. It took them about for years from start to finish and they worked on it on nights and weekends while working at Disney during the day. Disney didn't have any interest in the film, but Banjo proved their ability to make films and opened the door for a company (I forget which one) to back them for the Secret of Nimh.

wow, that looks super nice and smooth. Knowing nothing about anything, I'd have to say this looks very professional. Great job to you and whomever else worked on this project

Thanks! Lol, it was just me this time. My next assignment in 2d production will be another inbetween shot though.
