you're able to capture both motion and rest in your photos remarkably well, the pairing of the two here shows the contrast between the two states despite the same subject and location. not placing a huge emphasis on the face makes the rest of the photo stand out even more, balances the weight so to speak.

all in all, another great submission....

so sorry for the late reply! i'm really grateful that you took the effort to craft such a detailed critique. You were absolutely spot on the concept of motion and rest in this work; and the contrast i was trying to portray with the surroundings; passing trains and freedom to go anywhere. Thus the title really.

Thanks so much for your positive thoughts!

i couldn't, cuz i'm terrible at directions myself. it's between outram park and tanjong pagar. if you can find the ktm railway station, u'll be able to see the cargo area at the back... need to walk through winding roads and blocks that look all the same.

i'm not that helpful ya?

man...i enjoy reading comments like this that are different from the usual ones... I'm glad my photos spark off different opinions to different people. but I have to agree with you, this photoshoot has more theatrical feel in it. partly because i was inspired by a shoot done by a photographer. check it out here. thanks mike!

Environment is limited but imagination and creativity is not.
Yea, a change of environment (travel !!!!!!) is definately food for our muse.

Very impressive shot. I've got to give this to you...I can see that you're definitely good at people photography. Keep this up and maybe you'll get noticed and go will go places...if you know what I mean. I love when someone do creative shots that's have a different flair in the photos.

And the retro colors...you're the girl!.

Thank you, what you said meant alot alot to me. especially coming from you. I'm really glad that someone like you find my work worthy enough to even suggest i could go places! haha...i can dream... but isn't that in the minds of all photographers?

I'm always aiming something more creative and original in my photos, although the concepts have been somewhat done before by others. I guess nothing in this world is truly 100% original. but we'll still have to try to make the best out of every shot.

Shooter1970 In reply to ella-marie [2008-12-19 15:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Yup...that's my opinion and from what I see in your works. If we work hard and believe in ourselves....dreams can be a reality.

That's good to hear. Creativity and originality is the keyword. Yes, I agree that your photos had been done by others (same as mine). Nothing wrong in that actually...but if you make it into something creatively refreshing and original...or in short, your own trademark that people will recognize, then...that's an achievement.

Take every compliments, criticisms (constructive or otherwise) as a challenged to further better your next photo shoot. And as always, enjoy the photography session and always stive to be creative and original!.

All the best though!. As for me, I've done quite alot of wedding photos assignment. Most of my past clients are from M'sia.

And my photography resolution for 2009 is to do a very own photojournal of the countries that I've set my sights and planned to visit. I've always wanted to be a photojournalist with organization like Nat Geo, AFP/AP and the likes. But dream on!.

ella-marie In reply to Shooter1970 [2008-12-20 17:06:43 +0000 UTC]

haha.. working for nat geo or any editorial photo agency is the best... go on freelance photo assignments to various places on earth. soak in the culture, whether good or bad. and do what you like most... dream job dream job!

well i guess a lot has to do with your contacts/connections and a bit of luck. and invest $$$ in lots of expensive equipment too... it's not just so easy as to dream and dream and hope for one day to happen because it won't.

dreams can turn into a reality, if dreams are put into plan, and plans are put into actions. but most of the time we're just contented with dreaming, because to turn it into reality, one requires alot of risk taking and effort.

so cheers to dream on!

Shooter1970 In reply to ella-marie [2008-12-20 17:29:40 +0000 UTC]

LOL!!...well said. Just by dreaming and not willing to do anything to achieved that dreams...will, like you said not going to happened.

It definitely takes alot of risk, courage, determination and importantly...contacts!. Gears and equipments will come later. If we can produce a good photo with what we have...potential employers will definitely take notice and we'll be given better gears...no?.
