As the number of references grow, the amount of people who will understand them dwindles exponentially.
Please, at least name the referenced animes and characters.
More on-topic, I would argue that it Light would never have been even suspected if he was a little more careful. Being the top-student in your country is not being careful, but a great way to get a lot of attention you might not want. Nor is immediately trying to kill enemies the moment they taunt you. And revealing that he had access to police information was IMO the last nail in the coffin as far as staying hidden is concerned.
