Whew. Sorry I haven't been posting much lately--I've been working on this picture!
When fiddee and I were first discussing this commission, I loved the idea of this glamorous portrait of Iris and Fiddee dancing in a masquerade ball. I was so confident I could pull it off, I even decided on the fly that I wouldn't use cel-shading like I normally do <3 It would look so much more romantic with a softer style, right?!
Aaaand then this picture just about broke my pride in half X'D People who do digital paintings make it look so easy...! I took so long on this, my art program updated to its next version XDDD
Thank you for commissioning me, Fiddee, and thank you for your patience. Sorry it looks kind of different from my usual stuff--hope it looks nice anyway?
And now onward, to Lilatheyoungnaga 's cute, badass fox girl! LET'SA GO!

I adore that dress--it's not too detailed,but still has some intricate work and boy it is gorgeous!

There's a lot going on here, and it's beautiful, bright, but also kinda soft looking--I like this overall art style and the highlights, and... wow. Just. wow. XD

The Wakfu aesthetic doesn't always lend itself to extreme depictions of luxury (most costumes look pretty raggedy actually), so coming up with designs for the picture that weren't too detailed was its own challenge. I'm glad you appreciate the dress! It definitely holds the picture together, IMO.

And yeah, Wakfu is pretty cartoony, which isn't bad but as you said it's not always the most extravagant looking either. Gold is a thing though, lol.

I feel like I should have posted my own comment on this deviation, listing everyone (which includes you, dear lady!) who supported me through this big project! Especially since my grandfather passed away while I was working on this...I was really in a bad place at that point ;_; Now it's been almost two months since I completed this picture, and I really feel quite happy when I look at this whole scene here. All the dancers doing their own thing--I hoped that it would make the scene feel lively if I made sure each couple seemed engaged with their dance partner <3

Uh, I mean--
Ahem, yes, of course, the background. You know, this is the first time I put a lot of thought into it, so I'm happy you like it! I sketched the background so many times, trying to get the perspective to look correct and to get all the different parts of the background in place. It looked okay as a line art, but when I colored it, the background had so many pieces in it, it was sort of distracting from Fiddee and Iris

Thank you! It's so silly, but of all the parts of the picture, I really like...the saxophone in the background at the top of the stairs. One, because it's oddly realistic compared to everything else in the picture; but two, I liked this idea that the dancers are so entranced in the atmosphere, the musicians aren't even playing anymore, but the dancers keep on going.

I totally see what you mean by that, and I'm right there with you, imagination wise. The atmosphere you've built in this picture kind of makes you want to throw on your most elegant garb and jump right in. Or, if you're a dweeb like me, the same thing but instead of you yourself jumping in, you hurl your own OCs into the background so they too can participate in the energy and the liveliness. The other reason I particularly like the saxophone? It high key follows the ideas and weird cultures that some of the different classes Ankama made? So like... you have some of the most victorian, classic "fairy tale" garb for the really really high class and super important events in the World of Twelve? But the World of Twelve has modern music and modern instruments. So the saxophone is an, ultimately, really fitting choice to throw in here. And I absolutely love it.

I feel like I was trying to replicate an Instagram filter or something, with all the fuzzy light (bokeh? I just learned a new word. Bokeh!) and out of focus background. I just love the way fabric moves when people dance, the way it catches light and seems to fade out of sight *_*

Hihi, for once they finally get to go somewere a bit more extravagant and special compared to dancing a bit tipsy togetehr on the Inn table, lol XD
But I honestly don't think your pride should be anywere near broken or hurt, rather the opposit, I'd say you've outshine and out done yourself with everything!
The colors are both warm and vibrant, the shades blends in perfectly by being both noticeable and soothingly faint, not to forget the lines detailing every corner of the couple to make them stand out from the other guests.
And what makes me fall in love with it even more is all the detail small you've focused on such as the golden threads on Fiddee's outfit and the details on their masks!~

Thank you so much for the opportunity to draw your lovely characters. Ahhh I wanted to make particularly sure that Iris looked beautiful and Fiddee looked debonair--Riiko always does such an amazing job on these two, I felt like I had a lot to live up to! It was definitely a puzzle, trying to make sure that the party seemed lively and full, and yet to make sure that Iris and Fiddee commanded all the attention. Originally, I even had all the couples looking at them, like they were drawn into staring at such a passionate couple! But then having 10 sets of eyeballs in the background was a bit distracting, so I just made it so that only Iris and Fiddee have visible eyes. Hopefully the intensity in their gaze sells their passion for one another! *A*
And darn it, I could have added Noel in! Curses, such a missed opportunity X'D Yes, we'll have to believe that she's off screen somewhere, helping herself to desserts. <3

And with all due respect, Riiko is an amazing artist in many many ways, but so are also you! I never liked the though of comparing artist against one another (with the exception for my own work), every artist has their charm and unique form to create wonders from.
You've drawn them absolutly perfectly and I couldn't be more happy with the results of your hard and skillful work. Not to forget how much dedication and hard work you've placed in to it to make everything come together as incrediuble and beautiful as it did!~
