Description Got the harebrained idea to try and add in a background. So far, rather entertaining. By no means am I done with the shading on the JWill and JMur, still have to work on making the lighting true to the arena.

(And if you wonder why the helmets aren't buckled, it's because they're not playing. More than likely, this would be close to the end of the period, they've had their last shift, and they're done for now.)

Peeps in the background will be wearing jerseys. The Carolina Hurricanes seem to be one of the most be-jerseyed fanbases out there. (Shout-out to my fellow Caniacs!)

ETA: Apologies for the RFS's. If I can figure out how to dust the INSIDE of my scanner, I shall put an end to them.

I do have photo references to work from, and the shading isn't even half done, as stated in the description.

Your linked pics are lovely, but unfortunately, not really very useful in this instance, because they're beautiful, professionally lit photography, or a rather dark oil painting.

Depending on where a player is in the arena, shading isn't always so cut and dried, because you have the overhead light sources, plus whatever light would bounce back up from the ice. Depending on the condition of the ice, that can be substantial. There's always the possibility of side lighting from camera flashes also. So while the face is not flat, it may not be darker on either side simply because of the ambient light. Unfortunately, my scanner can't really pick up anything subtle to save its soul, so drawings will always look flatter than they really are.

This is just one of many projects sitting around waiting to be finished, and I might scrap this particular version and start over, simply because I don't like the background very much and I feel the lines are too dark.

Thank you so very much for your comment! You're awesome!

Also, the upper lip is always darker than the lower one.

But as far I'm concerned, you're talented.

Hmm, you'd shade the other side of their face. The human face is never "flat", the other half is always darker.
