Deer signifies natural beauty and grace. Encountering a deer in the wild, our breath catches - we are transfixed by their delicate features. Their heart rhythms pulse in soft waves of kindness. Walking softly and gracefully, deer leads us to opportunities to show gentle love and generosity to others.
Deer is linked to the arts, specifically poetry and music in ancient Celtic animal lore. They are associated with the fairie realm, leading troops of fairies through the forest paths. Deer can guide us into our own deep spiritual knowing.
Deer possesses sharp vision, hearing and smell and both the Celts and Native Americans observed deer to have uncanny accuracy when it came to finding the freshest greens and the best herbs. So too, deer can teach us to seek out our inner treasures.
In China deer is a symbol of happiness and good fortune and is associated with abundance, the dawn, the moon and easterly directions.

And to the Fianna in their original incarnation as well as the Terran Celtic incarnation...deer were food. Prey. But we relied on that prey to feed us. And in time before time...we rode them too.
A single deer would feed a squad for days, its life was not wasted.
