Description (2006) 9"x 3", Size 15 seed beads (matte dark green iris, matte green iris, matte light green, transparent copper lined), green jade beads, copper-fumed crystal beads, nylon thread.

Thanks, for your fabulous suggestion! This series will comprise all four elements done in individual bead bracelet designs. I don't know why I hadn't thought about doing a series of elemental pieces before.

For "Water" I picked copper as the metal of choice, due to its strong affinity to green and the planet Venus (which has strong water connotations), and because I wanted to reserve silver for "Air". Pale green and dark jade serves for the stones. The pattern reminded me of splashing water. Starting from darkest green the beads become lighter, until the pattern reaches its glossy, shimmery copper core.

Many traditional symbolic systems associate "Water" with blue, and "Air" with yellow, however, I feel more comfortable with the opposing elements of "Fire" and "Water" having the complementary colors of red and green, and "Air" and "Earth" being associated with the complementary pair of blue and yellow respectively.

WOW... these are beautiful. Do you use a loom?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ellygator In reply to jessa1155 [2007-09-16 15:07:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Actually I use a stitch called Peyote stitch which is off-loom and involves much less thread (which I like!) I actually posted instructions on the technique and some sample patterns all in my scraps.

Mark and I were talking about how beautiful it would be to use an opal bead or cab in the center of your bracelets! Your work is flawless(:

I'd love to combine beadwork more with stones and silver clay. I think I'll have to give that whole idea more thought, because the one think I would never do is just slap everything together with epoxy, so it'll take some engineering, I think.

You could have little bezel cups with attachments for the beadwork on either side perhaps? It would be simple but effective. Those bracelets really are just gorgeous.... worthy of gems for sure(:

The bubbly design communicates "water" well. The light color makes it feel like shallow beachy or glacial lake water to me.

The copper beads really give it a "light on the water" effect. To me they look like some kind of rays or skates with lovely markings

Lovely, I really like your choice of colours and pattern. I like how it looks a bit like a butterfly. I really like the piece because of it (my name means butterfly so I feel a close connection with them) pluse my element is water so this is a piece I can really relate to. Agan Wonderful job! I can't wate to see earth and air!
