Description Weird, dA copied the description from the ice king into this one.

FIXED NOW!

I'm back! I'm not satisfied with the colors, but I had to finish this. One more to the list!

I love the texture that's going on in the background! It's so hard to believe it's digital. That dirtiness is really nice-- and it provides a nice contrast from the bright color! @u@

Ahahah thanks dude! It's not hard at all to get this look. And all the textures are all from here on dA! Go to my collection of stock stuff on my favorites gallery that you'll find all of them

Awesome. I'll have to experiment a bit with those, but I haven't really delved much into the advanced techniques of photoshop. Mostly juts painting and drawing so far.

That's good! Keep at it then! My problem was that I delved too much and too early into layer modes and textures and i didn't develop my painting skills. You can definitely get any look you want with just one layer and a round regular brush, it's all a matter of practicing skill. So keep on practicing!

riight- see that's my problem! I use too many layers. I end up sketching on one, and then inking on another...I have to practice more with one layer paintings.

Ellygeh In reply to brrelli [2012-11-07 17:16:03 +0000 UTC]

Hey I do the same, you're not the only one ahahah! I end up with like 8 layers just for lineart! First one for really loose and messy sketch, second for deciding on pose and details, theeen another one for possible final lineart, and another one for little detais, it's crazy! Now I get all confused when i try to draw on paper eahahha no ctrl z there

brrelli In reply to Ellygeh [2012-11-08 07:58:45 +0000 UTC]

EXACTLY. haha I end up doing that too. I start off with background, sketch, ink, and color layers...but end up with like a "light sketch," "darker sketch," "ink 1," "Ink final" lmao. And of course the background is never just one layer....

ohh haha it's definitely watercolor. I was like "DIGITAL?" But everything else ^^ It's really cool, and I like your entire series.

I'm loving your watercolor series dude! I first saw those after a cursory visit to the Adventure Time fanart tumblr. I didn't realize they were yours until we met here
Personally, I've always wanted to replicate lightness of watercolors digitally, but until then, I'll stick with Oil Painted style.

Thank you Matt!! It's really an honor to receive such compliments from you dude!

That's my journey for coloring digitally, I've always loved watercolors and I still want to get this look just right. That's one of the main reasons i've been making this fanart, as practice trying to find my style, which I feel I don't have yet.

And once I'm down with watercolors, then I'll go to the oil paint look that you have it down pretty much. Maybe we can exchange painting tips later on

Oh yeah, fanart's the best avenue to focus on style. There's no big need to think of a new concept

I wanna see how good I can get with digital oil paints so I'll be sticking with it for a while. I'm perfectly willing to share tips dude, you just gotta ask me (Since I don't feel right about giving unsolicited art advice).
I enjoy giving unsolicited advice that inspires though, since frankly, we all need inspiration

Ahaha isn't that the truth! Inspiration is never enough! Thanks dude, I'll bother you about giving out some tips later on haha! What's the main program you use? Photoshop or something else?

Lol, I saw the other comment

I use an old copy of Painter X for my painting and Photoshop for final adjustments, effects and outputting for web I downloaded the demo for Painter 12 before but sadly, it sent my PC crawling to a standstill, so yeah, Painter X will do just fine for the foreseeable future.
I found Paint Tool SAI on the web and have been testing it, but it's not as powerful as Painter though. Though they (SAI) have this astonishing feature that allows you to slow down your cursor movement for precision.

Ellygeh In reply to illeity [2012-11-05 20:32:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I am only putting up with SAI because of the feature you mentioned. The brushes and color blending on it is the closest to Painter that I have found as well, but without all the sucking up of the RAM. But it is very limited so I always end up on photoshop halfway through haha!

illeity In reply to Ellygeh [2012-11-08 13:43:55 +0000 UTC]

And add to that SAI's inability to add text! It's purely a painting program, but these days, I'm slowly sticking to Painter so I can train my wrists to draw without Stabilizers. Since my art has a dirty/ grungy component to it, it's normal for it to be imperfect.

Nacho-TheGuy In reply to Ellygeh [2012-10-29 22:44:28 +0000 UTC]

No problem, man. And yes, you still need to draw a LOT more. There's Marceline, Lady Rainicorn, Tree Trunks, all the characters from the gender-bender episode...... GET ON IT! xD

Ahaha duuude so many characters, my head already hurts from thinking of the watercolor schemes for all these characters haha! I was going to make Beemo next, but I just remembered of another great character that I like. So Beemo will have to wait!
