Description Found this lovely tutorial by CassiopeiaArt and decided I really wanted to give this a try. It was a real challenge to get it all together, but it was a lot of fun.
If you've read LWWNH and RTFY I'm pretty sure you'll be able to guess the relevance of all the characters in this piece.

Thanks to: All of the above for sharing the models they've spent time porting and to JessGaskell for helping me with suggestions and all that.

All models are belong to: EA/Bioware

Disclaimer: After much ado clan leader Urdnot Wrex agreed to have his size adjusted to fit into the small circle providing I make it clear that he is not as puny as those scrawny humans.

These are all so cool!  Sort of reminds me of art one might see in Bioshock Infinite, or in a tarot card deck!  Bravo!

Thank you!
Very happy to hear you like it.
I actually never played Bioshock because it's 1st person's POV and it makes me slightly nauseous.

Yeah, I used to have that issue with the old Elder Scrolls games.  It's easier if you reduce the motion blue and increase the visibility of the targeting reticle.  I can't watch people play 1st Person games at all though...

elmjuniper In reply to Seracen [2015-07-28 17:48:22 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh. Maybe I should try that!
Because there are some nice 1st POvs I'd really like to play.
Although for some reason I can play Left4Dead lots and lots.

Seracen In reply to elmjuniper [2015-07-28 20:14:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's what a lot of folks call "the soap opera effect."  Again, motion blur (not "blue," as I said earlier, haha) plays a factor here.  Also known as "motion interpolation/smoothing."  Left 4 Dead has a bit more of a cartoony effect than a game like Skyrim, so it's easier to see in motion for some people (although the reverse is true for other people).  Another good example was when I recently played "Lichdom: Battlemage."

Visually an amazing game, but the speed of the smoothing was at odds with the violent motion blur, and it became jarring to watch.  Turning all those after-effects off not only kept me from being sick, but it also improved my framerate, haha!  And yeah, the targeting reticle gives something for your eyes to focus on.  It's sort of like with Oculus Rift - the people who felt sick got better once they could see a "fake nose" in their peripheral vision, lol!

LOL well I had to explain why Wrex was like pretty much the same size as the others despite being muuuuch bigger.

Elm, love the concept and clearly this took some time love the composition of it.

How did you do your cropping and black outline for Shep?I'm asking 'cause in high res it looks a bit rough (especially around the lighter foreground colours..ie face and hair of Shep).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elmjuniper In reply to Jeadin [2015-06-25 18:32:16 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like it! And yes it did take quite some time since I sort of looked at tutorial and then wanted to add my own spin to it.
Yeah, I used stroke which isn't the cleanest outline ever.

That way you fellow nerds recognise me easier.

Jeadin In reply to elmjuniper [2015-06-25 20:15:39 +0000 UTC]

Stroke works well for clean cut hard lines... But try is with an external glow using black with a multiply at 100%. You can also use an internal glow of a couple pixel width to smooth out the odd light pixels here and there.

If you have the .psd file with layers, I could show you exactly what I mean (uf you do not mind sharing your art eith a total stranger that is)

Of course you can give it a go yourself

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elmjuniper In reply to Jeadin [2015-07-18 20:26:17 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I'm super slow sometimes.
It's a preeeeeetty big file though. >_<
But let me see if I can put some of the layers together and make it smaller.

LOL! I guess I've developed a certain style.
Thank you so much for the nice compliments, always nice to hear when people like the stuff you've been working on.
Yeah well, we both have experience with people making use of our stuff so I figured I'd get it in there in the least disturbing yet "I made this" sort of way.
