flat(n)- a basic piece of scenery

this is a soft-covered flat. it would've gone under paintings except for the fact that not only did i paint this, but i built it. with lumber, staples, glue, cornerblocks, and muslin(fabric). the muslin covering is what classifies this as a soft-covered flat (a hard-covered flat is covered with lauan(pronounced "loo-on"), a type of thin sheetwood).

this flat was supposed to go with this play i had to read for stagecraft (this was an assignment for my stagecraft class). this is just a little section of the wall. the effect i was going for was a wall that was supposed to be pretty but was disgusting and covered in dirt. i was working with limited resources, so i didn't get the exact colors i wanted. eh, well, i got an a on it.

method: scumbling(a type of wet blending) on the second layer (the first layer was just a base coat and the third layer was basically just loading up a feather duster with paint and splatting it against the muslin )
