Description Kimur is a character that will be introduced in Spindrift near the end of Chapter one. I designed her over a year ago, before going live with the comic, but I was never really content with the design.

It makes sense, because back then we had not fleshed out this character as much as the rest of the cast. When I uploaded the first design, I think we just decided that she was going to be a she and not a he, that Cheves wasn't going to be her brother, and that's just a few of the things we changed .

Sometimes designs grow on you... but this one just wouldn't sink in. There was something off about the a-symmetry of her garb and she was so terrible twiggy... while the character isn't athletic at all.

I'm nearing the point of introducing her into the comic and I just didn't feel the old design did her justice...
So, back to the drawing board , and: Meet Kimur 2.0.

Here's the old design. Let me know if you like this one better, or the previous one .

Both designs are very interesting, and I really like the other one. But I think that this one is WAY more interesting, that's probably one of the things that I love most about your comic, every character is SO unique, not only in personality, but also in the way they look. She has way more personality in this design than in the other and looks more mature.

I can't way to see her in the comic, is such a pitty there's just one update per week, but I can totally understand it, is obviously a lot of work.

Great character design. I love her expression!
I like this design better than the old one. She looks more mature in this version.

Ah good! She is supposed to be about Neva's age, just a few years younger, so that's a good thing

Both Designs Are Wonderful!!!

Nice! I understand the want for diversity in body types, but if you want her shorter and a little thicker then her head in this shot is a little too big for the body choice. It makes her appear much shorter in terms of leaning toward midget. A simple scaling would fix that in like ten seconds XDD. A head is roughly about half the width of the shoulders. I love your drawing though ! Can't wait for new pages!

Without knowing any more about the character than this shot gives, I still say I like this design better. Partly, because my internal bias says "Yay! More diverse bodies!" I think, though, that I see more depth in her in this version - there's something about the details in the costume and her features that makes her more individual.

I like the new one more, aesthetically speaking. (I don't know what her personality is like... though, I'm assuming the new one is more accurate since that's what you made it for. xD )

Love this one, the feathers on the shoulder are brilliant.
Loads of people have already said this but yes it does portray her personality more, the older version gave her a more military, harsher look.

She hasn't changed drastically, and I like both, however I think the new one is better, the colours, clothes etc just seems to fit and I like it

I adore her knew design. Not to say the old one was bad, but it does look less "sporty" and if she isn't the sporty time then it certainly fits her better. I think asymmetry usually works better on a top rather than on a skit and pants, I'm not quite sure why, but it works here in the new one. And the feather decor is lovely, but my most favourite thing is that she seems to have more flesh on her bones. I find this super appealing

I read spindrift the other day and this character looks kind of generic to me. The original design has the matching gloves and neckpiece that make her easily recognizable.

I really like this version! You make designing clothes look so easy!

I like the redesign. I like that she has some weight to her. I also think the clothing looks much prettier. I like her facial expression more as well, but I'm not sure if that is related to the redesign or your art improving.

greenteagoddess [2012-06-23 01:05:11 +0000 UTC]

This version is definitely more appealing... she seem to have a little bit more substance than the first version and I think the new clothes give her a more 'leisurely' feel. The old ones seem to have a more active feel.

I like this design a lot better because she's real person size instead of the twigs we usually see in comics.

I like her new design, she kind of looks like a high school principal, glaring at the students. She's got a lot of character!

I definitely like the new design better! I love that you're giving a more realistic body-type in your cast...they are few and far between in comics in general and it's nice to see some real women in art...HEH

ElsaKroese In reply to DarwinsDomain [2012-06-22 23:10:48 +0000 UTC]

haha exactly . And the twiggy lady in the old design didn't make any sense character wise either.

DarwinsDomain In reply to ElsaKroese [2012-06-22 23:15:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah when you mentioned she was not an athletic type, I could see why you weren't settled with the previous version. I like this selection in clothes much better too...something about her garb in the previous photo was too...bright??

Lazytroll [2012-06-22 23:07:27 +0000 UTC]

this new one looks more short and maybe "thick" than the other draw, maybe for the shape of the dress, but surely hairstyle and expression are very interesting

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElsaKroese In reply to Lazytroll [2012-06-22 23:11:35 +0000 UTC]

Hmhm, I meant for her to have a bit more "normal" body type. Character wise this makes more sense and It adds a little more diversity to the cast

Lazytroll In reply to ElsaKroese [2012-06-22 23:39:16 +0000 UTC]

good choice I say. More "real" character are surely welcome in comics

The design is great. I suppose you're feeling more comfortable with the name now? ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElsaKroese In reply to Pretty-Angel [2012-06-22 22:51:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I guess that one stuck. I was unsure at first because we named her when she was still a he.. but once you use a name for a while it sort of merges and becomes one with whatever it is that you are using it for .

Pretty-Angel In reply to ElsaKroese [2012-06-22 23:21:04 +0000 UTC]

I guess you could have simply changed it to "Kimura" or something to make the name sound feminine.
But yeah, I also have a few characters where I thought "You could have given her/him a better name!" but when I start thinking about alternatives it just doesn't feel right. XD
