Description
I found out about this festival in an educational video on TikTok. It intrigued me. I know little about half or both of my ethnicities and cultures as a mixed child. So I went digging into Filipino holidays and festivals. I find some of them that are interesting and fun, and this is one of them.
The Masskara festival is about a rough time in the 1980s when sugar profit declined, as the provinces' main profit, during harsher famines. So the people of Bacolod made masks to bring positivity and to make income during those times. And now it's one of the happiest festivals as a reminder of what they've gone through and continued to share happiness.
