Also, since you're from Australia (I was curious about your other art and went to profile. I noticed you were from there, I wasn't stalking or whatever! XD) and wanted to ask, do they really call girls there by the nickname "Sheila"?

For a stereotype-free approach, try reading Wikipedia, which has a neutral point of view.

One person has a very narrow experience and doesn't have much motivation to be neutral. Wikipedia writers at least try to be neutral and include more sources.
(Except small pages written by only one or two people, that won't be good.)
If you are serious about knowing more, read a cultural/history survey article, or a book. Read cultural anthropology books, if you are reallyΒ serious.
About the only benefit of asking a native is that it's more fun than reading a book.
