Description
Basic
Name: Echokit | Echopaw | Echoheart
Prefix: Echo: named for how the first sound he ever made was him mimicking his father's mew; like a little echo.
Suffix: Heart: named for his kindheartedness, and his willingness to help anyone regardless of who they are and where they came from.
Nicknames: Echo, or anything else really, he doesn't mind
Age: 27 moons
Rank: Medicine Cat
Mentor: Heatherfall
Apprentice(s): None
Gender: Tom
Breed: Scottish fold/amer. long hair x moggy
Clan: Windclan
Religious Beliefs: Echoheart believes in Starclan, but doesn't believe them to be all-powerful. Instead he sees them as almost a library of wisdom and knowledge; cats to go talk to when in a pickle, not someone to obey and cater to, and certainly not something to fear.
Physical Appearance
Build: Echoheart is a bit shorter than an average tom, and has a bit of a stocky build. He has average muscle mass, but isn't as well-built and muscled as the warriors for he has no need to hunt or fight. He also inherited his folded ears from his mother.
Coat color: Echoheart is a light brown tabby, with a white chin, cheeks, paws, and underbelly. He also has pale ginger ears, and spots on his face, paws, and tail.
Coat texture: Echoheart has medium-length, slightly scruffy fur. It's rather soft to the touch and thick, keeping him nice and warm in leafbare, though he does get a bit hot during greenleaf; its also a bit hindering when wet, though the good-natured tom doesn't really mind.
Eye color: Echosong has bright amber eyes that always seem warm and welcoming to everyone.
Personality
[Friendly/Outgoing] [Good natured/Kind] [Ignorant/Naive] [Absent-minded] [Eccentric] [Curious] [Childish] [People-pleaser/push-over]
Friendly/Outgoing: "Oh, hello there, its really nice to meet you!"
Echoheart is always happy to make new friends, no matter their clan or rank. He will always mingle among the other clans at the gatherings, and will never let the tension between the clans stop him from meeting new faces. He especially loves kits and when he doesn't have medicine cat duties to attend to he can almost always be found by the nursery.
And while he is a bit quiet when left alone, once he is spoken to he is quite the chatterbox. He'll talk about everything and anything, and listen closely when being talked to; he's very good at holding conversations, a skill he gained from his uncle and mentor, Heatherfall.
Good natured/Kind: "Are you sure you're feeling alright, dear? You can come to me for anything."
Echoheart was given his full medicine cat name for a reason; he truly has one of the biggest hearts around. He will always be willing to care for another cat, no matter their clan or lack thereof. This, or course, doesn't always sit well with other members of Windclan, but Echoheart hardly ever notices their disapproval; not because he ignores it, he just doesn't have the heart to believe any cat would turn down another that needed help simply because they were of a different clan.
Ignorant/Naive: "I don't understand, why would you do that?"
Echoheart seems to lack the ability to see the bad in others, he is completely ignorant of the fact that some cats aren't nice and some may try to use him for his kindness. He's also rather naive in the sense that he believes there's always a chance to save someone, and he will wear himself thin over something that anyone else wouldn't have seen hope for from the start. He is also very sensitive of conflict, and is often upset over the fighting of the clans; unable to see why everyone is upset over such little things. Why can't Riverclan and Thunderclan just share sunning rocks anyway? Why so much fighting over a bunch of bounders? Echoheart just doesn't understand the reasoning behind fighting at all, and has a naive hope that one day all the clans can just get along and share.
Absent-minded: "Ah...why did I need yarrow again?...or was it marigold I needed?..."
Echoheart's mind is always wandering. Nobody is sure where exactly it wanders to, but it's certainly not there a good part of the time. He will often leave camp, only to come back with a completely different herb than he'd gone out to get, or even come back empty-pawed.
He keeps his den in a state of organized chaos, sans the organization. Though, while he may not know exactly where everything is in his store of herbs, he always knows exactly what something is and what it's used for.
Eccentric: "*mumbling to himself*"
Echoheart is a rather strange individual, and can often be found pacing his den, mumbling to himself about one thing or another. He'll also be seemingly upset about the weirdest of things, like the fact that hares can't be blue, or sparrows green; then go right on with his business as if it hadn't happened. His parents say its an over-active imagination that causes this, while his siblings will teasingly say he's just weird. Either way, Echoheart doesn't mind being called either, he is who he is and he won't change that just because someone says he's a crazy mousebrain.
There have been times, however, when his eccentricity had been useful in finding treatments for illnesses and injuries that couldn't be healed by traditional methods.
Curious: "Now what might that be?"
Echoheart's curiosity had been one of the things that led him to wanting to be a medicine cat in the first place. When he was a kit, he didn't want to play fight or hunt. Instead his curiosity led him to explore every inch of the camp, and he eventually found himself in his uncle's den. From there his curiosity of herbs and how they are used only grew, and once he was an apprentice and could explore outside camp, it practically took off. Now he's always curious about every sound and scent and funny looking plant he comes across, which has resulted in quite a few misadventures. But you know what they say; curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.
Childish: "I love the snow, its so much fun to jump around and roll in!"
Though he's now a year and a half old, Echoheart still has the boundless energy and playfulness of a kit. Nobody is sure if this a direct result of his love for kittens, or if his love of kittens comes from his childishness. Some of the more serious warriors of the clan often find his lack of seriousness to be a liability, and think he should be spending his time serving the clan instead of goofing off with the kits in the nursery. Both the kits and Echoheart beg to differ.
People-pleaser/Push-over: "Oh no, its no problem hun, what I was doing can wait."
Echoheart is always willing to help, and do what's asked of him. He wants everyone to be healthy and happy, even at the cost of his own health and happiness. He'd never let it show though, that would just cause others to worry and he wouldn't want that either. So he will gladly do whatever for whoever no matter how nicely or un-nicely they ask, and he'll do it with a smile and an 'of course!'
He's been known to sometimes come down with an illness because he's so caught up in treating everyone else that he forgets about himself, and it seems he often forgets that if he isn't able to treat anyone then there won't be anyone else to cure the sickness.
History:
Before Birth:
Sadie had been a kittypet for her whole life, being born from two purebred Scottish Folds and raised for her first few months with her siblings, but soon she was taken to a new home to live with the human family there. She was happy there, she was warm and fed and loved, and even found love in the neighboring family's tom. Sadie and Jack were nearly inseparable, they loved each other above everything else and that love had blinded them to the possibility that one day they may be separated.
That day came much faster than either of them could have anticipated, as Jack's humans were moving to a new home and Jack was coming with them. By the time Jack knew himself, it was too late, he was already caged and ready for the trip. Sadie shared her last goodbyes with her mate and watched as the car carrying him drove away. She never saw him again, and she never told him she was pregnant.
The news of her pregnancy did not go over well with her humans, though, and before she could ever realize what had happened they had herded her into the car and driven off to the nearby forest where she was promptly left; most likely to starve. Terrified Sadie tried to run back home by following the road, but the disoriented she-cat ended up running the wrong direction; landing herself right in Windclan territory. A patrol found her shortly and took her back to the camp.
After a bit of confusion and a lot of talking things through, it was agreed that Sadie could remain safely within Windclan's camp until her kits were born, after all it was newleaf and prey was plentiful. And so that is what happened. Though Sadie understood that she hardly knew how to take care of herself without humans, and she decided that it would be best for her kits to be left in the clan and raised as warriors. So with a heavy heart she said goodbye to Honey, Cotton, and Cricket and left the clans behind.
The white she-cat looked down at her daughters, a sad expression crossing her face as she brushed her tail gently over their backs in turn; Honey, Cotton, and Cricket, they were all so beautiful. But Sadie knew she couldn't stay, clan life wasn't for her and she felt as though she was over staying her welcome. Now was the time to make her choice, she could leave with her kits in tow and risk losing them, or leave them behind. The answer was obvious to her, though that didn't make it any less painful.
"Sadie? Are you alright?" She looked over to the nest beside her, Mothpelt was looking over at her with concern painted across her elegant features.
"Yes, I'm quite alright dear..." she smiled over at the pale she-cat, "Though I think I shall go for a walk."
Mothpelt watched the she-cat she'd come to enjoy the company of leave the den with a heavy heart. Once she was sure the other was gone she stood and moved over to Sadie's nest, her two own sons stumbling after her. She settled herself down and began to groom all five kits soothingly. She knew Sadie wouldn't be back, and someone had to care for her little ones, make them officially Windclan.
"Welcome to Windclan. Honeykit, Cottonkit, Cricketkit. Welcome home."
Honeykit, Cottonkit, and Cricketkit had hardly even opened their eyes when Sadie had left the clan and so they were hardly affected by their mother's leaving, though it was sometimes hard for them, being the daughters of a kittypet after all. Despite this they did manage to earn the respect of their clanmates and grew to be valued warriors, and in Honeyspots' case a valued mother. Her and Swiftspring really only got to know each other well when they were apprentices, and funny enough they had seemed to hate each other at the time, but as those things seem to always work out they fell in love.
Their first litter was born only a few moons after they had become official mates and the couple was happy to welcome Brightkit, Brakenkit, Echokit, and Softkit into the world.
Kit: (birth - 6 moons)
Echokit had been born still and silent, and Heatherfall had at first feared him to be stillborn; but that was not the case. That didn't stop him and Echokit's parents from worrying over the small tom, watching him closely looking for some sign that he was as healthy as the rest of him suggested. That was when Swiftspring let out a small mew of frustration; one that was promptly repeated by his smallest son, earning him his name.
"Are you sure there's nothing you can do?" Heatherfall sighed at the worry in his brother's mate's mew, and glanced down at the four kits wiggling and meowing healthily by her belly. Well, at least three of them were. One of them, the smallest of the toms, was nearly completely still and hadn't made a single sound; not even a peep.
"Like I've said there's nothing wrong with him, really, he's just..." Heatherfall tilted his head, not really sure what to call him. Perhaps the poor kit was mute, deaf even. He just wasn't sure.
"He's just what?" Heatherfall could hear the frustration in his brother's voice, though he couldn't blame him. It was Swiftspring's first litter after all, he was allowed to be worried. He was glad his brother had finally spoken up though, he'd only been murmurring quietly to Honeyspots up until now. Heatherfall had just opened his mouth to reply when he was interrupted by a small mew; one that sounded almost as though it were trying to copy Swiftspring.
All three of their heads turned to look down at the source of the tiny noise, and smiles broke out all around; it seemed at last his nephew decided to speak his mind.
"I know what I want to name him now." Honeyspots spoke softly, "I'd like to call him Echokit." Swiftspring gave his mate an affectionate nuzzle before leaning down to gently lick his son,
"I like that. My little Echo."
As the siblings grew, Echokit spent less and less time playing with them. He was more interested in exploring than he was in play fighting, or playing leader. He was always sticking his nose in places where it didn't belong, but even a scolding from a warrior wouldn't deter him for long. It didn't take Echokit long to discover his uncle Heatherfall's den, and find out that he wasn't a warrior like Echokit's mom and dad; he was the medicine cat. From then on Echokit would go visit his uncle everyday, and Honeyspots and Swiftspring couldn't have been more proud when, come his sixth moon, he chose the path of a medicine cat.
Apprentice: (6 - 12 moons)
Echopaw was eager to begin his training and his enthusiasm was noticed and appreciated by many of the clan, though the growing tom was a bit clumsy and had to be reminded by Heatherfall often of what it was he was meant to be doing. But Heathfall was a patient and kind tom, and never grew angry at his apprentice; as long as Echopaw tried his hardest there was nothing to be angry over, and Echopaw never tried any less than his hardest.
Everything was going smoothly with Echopaw's training, and all had seemed right. That is until Brackenpaw came to him talking about some cute Thunderclan apprentice he'd seen while on patrol, going on about her bright eyes or something. Echopaw didn't get it at all, his nose had crinkled with the thought. He understood that mom and dad loved each other and all, but he still didn't get it. What was the appeal of she-cats? Echopaw already knew he wasn't interested in she-cats in anyway beyond friendship -he wasn't allowed a mate anyway- but it took him another moon to realize that he did have an interest in toms. And that realization hit him hard in the form of a crush.
He was another apprentice, and Echopaw couldn't help but stare sometimes. He just couldn't help it! That shiny pelt, those bright eyes, he was perfect in every way, but Echopaw promised to never tell him or anyone for that matter; this was his secret. Heatherfall of course noticed his nephew's infatuation, but said nothing about it; not feeling like he should really get in the way of a silly apprenticeship crush. And he was right to do so, as Echopaw eventually got over his feelings; though he will sometimes get flustered around his childhood crush.
Med cat: (12 months +)
Echoheart couldn't have been happier to become a full medicine cat of Windclan, especially since Brightwing, Brakenstripe, and Softstep had gotten their warriors names a moon prior. He was welcomed back from his ceremony warmly by his family.. After that Echoheart gladly settled back into his usual routine, though he still relied on Heatherfall to keep him on task and keep his head out of the clouds; as well as remind him to eat, and drink water..
But the happy atmosphere wasn't to last as not even a moon later and unexpected dog attack left Heatherfall gravely wounded, and while Echoheart stopped the bleeding he couldn't stop the infection that took the medicine cat's life. Echoheart fell into a depression after that, feeling the loss heavier than anyone. He would often pace his den and argue quietly to himself on ways he could have saved his mentor, leaving the clan worried not only for his well being but for the well being of those who might have to be put in his care.
But just as Honeyspots and Swiftspring were about to step in, Echoheart seemed to just snap out of it, going right back to how he had been before. That would have been just fine if it weren't for the fact that now he didn't have Heatherfall around to keep him and his thoughts organized, and while that worries many, many more are just glad to have their medicine cat back.
Since the landslide that killed so many cats, Echoheart has become a bit aloof and is feeling his faith in starclan beginning to slip. How could they let something so terrible happen, why would they let so many die? Even though the birth of two new little siblings two moons after the landslide did help to lift his spirits, he's still struggling to cover up his darker feelings with a smile, but it's easy for anyone's who's known him more than five minutes to figure out it's all rather fake.
