I assume that you know I don't have her anymore...
She died many monhts ago..
Damn it, I still miss her.... ;(

But, you know, she started my real obsession about rats, I just loved these animals and now I have 6 rats that are fully-breed and I now know that breeding fancy rats could bring an enjoyment and has a purpose....
I started my rattery, because I wanted to breed full of health rats, without any inbreeding in their pedigrees. I hope that my plan will work and that I'll contribute to develop a fine healthy and calm rats which will be good as pets and good as a breeding pets.
Anyway, I want to continue my work, so I'm glad that some people appreciate it.

its good to see that someone really cares about them like you do, many of the pets shops ives seen that sell rats dont care about how well the animals are looked after aslong as they get good money for them... it upsets me too think that people can be so careless and crule...

but im just glad to see that there are people like you that truely care for these creatures ^v^

I don't have girls anymore. They didn't live for long... I decided not to buy rats from a petshop anymore, because they are inbred and have many diseases.
So I decided to buy rats only from breeders, a healthy rats with a pedigree. I bought Amis from a rattery (after I lost my second rat girl) and now I plan to start breeding program and run a rattery, but have to get girls for him. We will see how this plan will work...

Aw...Amis looks like a real sweetie! Youre definately right about the pet store rats. So far Scritches is doing ok other than being a grumpy butt...and Miyagi is from a breeder. The pet store I got him from is one of thise high end fancy expensive places. I figured it was worth spending $20 on a rat if there was a better chance of him living a long healthy life. Theyre the only place I would buy rats from ever again or I would go to a rattery. But hopefully that wont be necessary for years to come!

I would love to breed ferrets just as a hobby but I cant think seriously about that until I have a real house with more room and less chance of moving around. Theyre the same way though, most ferrets are bought from pet stores and nearly 100% are from Marshall's Farms. They decent and spay/neuter their ferrets almost as soon as theyre born and it causes stunted growth, a shorter life span, and other various health problems! I would never buy a ferret from a pet store, I only adopt and even with adopting, all 3 of my boys are from Marshall's.

Yeah, you're right that those fancy rats from breeders are worth their price, if they have a chance to be more healthy than pet store rats. Here in Poland are terrible conditions in petshops, ratties are kept in small glass aquariums, crowded, in many cases boys and girls kept not seperately but together (!), and the main problem is they are bred in close affinity, brother with sister, father with doughter, etc. This is terrible. There is very good chance to obtain pregnant rat or inbred and unhealthy rat from a petshop.
Now I run my own statistics... Both of my pet store girls lived shorter than 2 years. They died from heart and lung disorder, one had also a large tumour... Vet told me that possible reason was an inbreeding. I will see how my fancy rats will be doing. I hope they will be fine for very very long time.

Aw, and surprise ! - I will have a second boy, a companion for my Amis My friend bought a young rat, but her other rats didn't accept this new one, so she was looking for new home for him. This one is dumbo powder blue I hope that he and Amis will be close friends
I don't know anything yet about obtaining girls for my rattery. I'm just looking around and searching for trusted breeders with fine rats. There is no rush here - Amis is still too young to be a father

Congrats! Have you ever had to introduce a new rattie to the family before? It can be very tricky and the rats you already have can be very cruel to new babies. If you need any tips, Id be more than willing to share.

Im glad youre not rushing into things. I know you are going to be a great rat mommy! Seriously though, I've been though just about everything when it comes to my rat boys so if you have any questions please ask. I love helping out and sharing info

Unfortunately Rosie died few months ago and I'm really sad about it. She was my beloved rat. I also have second rat, but she is different, not as much lovable as Rosie was.. But I love her too. She is now 1 year old and I hope she will live long. I don't want to lose her too...
