Ch. 1 Mandatory | Leaving

It was one of the last taverns still alive with the sounds of travelers and good beer, and it happened to be where the two weary travelers collided, in a not-so-graceful flurry of hooves and hair.

"Watch where you're going!" Vy had to practically shout over Cog's snorting as he pawed the dirt in front of him, daring the large black stallion to come any closer. The small, pink-haired rider atop her glaring black stallion giggled nervously.

"Oh! I'm sorry, we didn't see you there!" She slid acrobatically from her saddle and landed, holding her hand out. "The name's Selenae, and this beast here is Zelgadis." She used her free hand to pat his sweaty neck affectionately, and he tossed his head, jangling the pumpkins on his bridle.

Vy scrunched her face up in confusion, glancing back and forth between both the friendly, odd rider, and her equally interesting horse, who was currently flipping his lip up to taunt her gelding. Vy snarled at her large mount when he flattened his ears and crow-hopped, attempting to dislodge her so he could attack the black.

"Peace!" She leaned back to plant a hard, gloved-smack onto the soft part of his side where the tack didn't cover. He squealed embarrassingly and she rolled her eyes as he leapt into the air and gave one last tremendous buck before settling into a snorting and grunting bundle of horseflesh. Sighing, she tossed her hair and leapt from his back, giving him a yank on the reins to settle him before reaching her own hand out to the still-smiling girl. "Vy and Cognito." she stated shortly, gripping the small girl's hand and yanking on her gelding again.

"How nice!" Selenae exclaimed before giggling again and rubbing her stallion's muzzle. "We thought we were the last ones still traveling!" She talked in a hushed, excited voice as they walked together to the tavern's barn to untack.

"Heh. I thought we," Vy jabbed her finger at her mount who flattened his ears characteristically, "were the last sorry souls still on the road. Glad to know we're not as late as I thought." She chewed on a piece of hay absentmindedly before throwing in some extra bedding for her ill-tempered gelding and heading back to the tavern. Selenae followed and they continued to talk quietly before calling it a night. Selenae suggested they travel together in the morning and Vy could literally not object; she was unable to get a word in edgewise.

In the morning, Vy and Selenae refreshed their rations, tacked their frisky horses, and mounted. Immediately, each rider knew there was trouble. Having spent the night together, Zelgadis and Cognito were already exhausted of one another, and they both frothed at the mouth, chomping at their bits and squealing at each other.

"Maybe this wasn't such a great idea!" Selenae squeaked over the commotion, and Vy clenched her teeth as she tried to keep her own mount under control. Swearing under her breath, she felt his muscles bunch beneath him, and it was on.

Both horses surged forward at breakneck speed, each grunting to get ahead of the other. Vy yanked on her reins with no result, so she tried to remain balanced as the horses leapt wildly into each stride, their heaving sides bumping as they flattened their ears and rolled their eyes. Vy glanced from under her sweating brow to see Selenae clinging to Zel for dear life, her pink hair flying out behind her.

"Lousy piece of.." Vy mumbled incoherently under her breath, her body bouncing and leaning dangerously from side to side as he ignored her completely. There was only one thing that was going to stop him and that was putting this black stallion in his place with him coming out the dominant.

The trees whirred by Vy's watering eyes and she tried to sit up and out of the saddle to protect her bottom from any further bruising. At this rate, one of the horses would tire soon, so she just had to stay on until that happened; and that's when she saw the fallen tree in the path. Selenae squeaked and grabbed Zel's mane, before leaning out of the saddle to prepare. Vy gritted her teeth and felt her mount leap at least 5 strides away from the obstacle.

"Son of a--!" Vy grappled with the reins as she struggled to stay with the insanely long jump, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw Zel reach the base, before leaping over right beside her. When both mounts landed heavily, they immediately surged forward again, each foaming at the mouth and neck, still unable to stop. 'At least we'll get there quickly.....'
