#12 Defiantly using Thanator images as references for this pose.

Project Notes:

I felt compelled to make a creature of my own one day and decided to post my progress to my final design. This is still a Work in Progress as school has started back up.  I was inspired by Avatar’s (Pandora) Thanator for my final design (but it took awhile to get there) as well as the movie Outlander and the creature Moorwen. Interestingly, I didn’t know I was inspired by Outlander until I had happened to run across an image of the alien during a Google search. It turned out that my dad had watched the film once upon a time, and I happened to glimpse occasionally at the screen when I walked by when I was teeny-tiny.  It’s amazing what the subconscious remembers.

For the next several images you will see I had the drawing assistance from the lovely Lady Faith. She helped me work out how terrain can affect the animal as well as correcting me on anatomy. I am still in need of assistance on what to call this creature.

Origin Environment: Rocky dark Planet. Sun barely crests the horizon for a few hours before disappearing again. Luminescent plants and creatures.

Personality: Guardian. Puts on aggressive display but never attacks first. Gentle, Calm, Wise, Highly Intelligent. Can learn through observation and can think logically and find solutions to problems.

Purpose: Defends the tombs or graves of great leaders or heroes from looters or those seeking to defile the grave.

Characteristics: Blood is a luminescent green. When threatened, adrenaline activates the glowing properties of the blood. Because this creature lives on a different planet, her skin is actually a color that cannot be seen by the human eye, so parts of her body seem translucent or indistinguishable. Quills along spine, tail and shoulders rise up from skin in a threat display. Quills are made of an extremely lightweight but durable organic material. Eyes do not have a pupil but instead are similar to what you see when light reflects out of a cats eye. (Have yet to figure out how to draw that).
