Matilda was always the 'trouble maker' of her family. A lot of that was blamed on her grandmother, Lillian, encouraging the young girl to read fantasy and adventure books from the muggle world. These stories of exploration and self discovery shaped how Matilda saw the world around her, and made her believe that there would always be some kind of mystery or secret to solve and figure out. Because of this she'd always find herself sticking her nose where it shouldn't belong, and would most often than not end up scolded by her parents for her poor and nosy behaviour.
It wasn't as if she did what she did for attention or because she wasn't smart. She simply wished to find out more about the world through her own experiences, and when she was cut off from her explorations after a particularly bad incident involving some other family's secrets, Matilda was forced to take up something a bit more... Constructive. This doesn't mean that she still isn't a nosy troublemaker, she simply focused on something else in order to get the Hogwarts letter, that she was made to believe would only come if she behaved.
The young girl is the type to say what she thinks, which only causes her more problems as she can come off blunt and even harsh at times. Despite this, Matilda is actually not a mean person and is very open to helping others with their problems, especially if it involves a mystery to solve. She believes that she is the main character or star of her own story, because of this she can underestimate those around her, especially when she's not in a leadership role. If things don't go the way she thinks they should she'll get confused and often upset, which makes her seem rather bratty.
Matilda quite enjoys figuring things out for herself, thus her facination with exploration and mystery. This transfered to her hobby of crafting and lead to her teaching herself how to build and create many things from simple trinkets and trash lying about. As she got older she learned how to use this skill to the benefit of her adventures, and often crafted up different tools in order to get herself out of sticky (sometimes literally) situations.
Background:
Matilda Blackburn was born to Alexander, and Willow Blackburn as the second of their three daughters. The Blackburn family had been known as a pure-blooded family for many years, until Alexander married Willow, a half muggle woman whom he had met in his time at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite the slight upset caused by the marriage, the Blackburn family would continue on with many of their traditions, often disregarding Willow's late father's heritage all together in favor of keeping their 'pure-blood' status in the community.
There were many expectations on their three young daughters. They had to be intelligent, cunning, strong willed, and poised. These things had been ingrained in all Blackburn children for generations, creating many successful witches and wizards to carry on their legacy.
Being raised in a family that valued tradition like that was trying on young Matilda, who's parents were often too busy with their work to be with the three girls. Because of this, much of her time was spent with her Grandmother who introduced her to fantasy filled books written by muggles. Some of her favorites included the muggle interpretation of Witches and Wizards, and her absolute favorite was about a little girl from a place called Kansas, who got swept up one day in a big tornado that dropped her in a magical land filled with amazing creatures and adventure.
She dreamed of one day being able to go on her own adventure, far away from the typical hubub of everyday life. Young Matilda often found herself in trouble when she would find herself in places she was not supposed to be during one of her adventures, and eventually more and more rules were made to ensure that the middle Blackburn child became the dignified and respectful child she was supposed to be, instead of the nosy trouble maker she had become.
And she hated it.
Especially when her older sister, Ava got her letter to attend Hogwarts, being able to leave their strict home for long periods of time, always coming back at breaks with stories about classes and the crazy teachers. Mattie ACHED for her chance to go, and after her Grandmother told her "You will only get your letter if you're a good girl" did she try to stay out of trouble to ensure that she got the chance to go on that crazy adventure she dreamed of, far away from home in a big castle with ghosts and moving staircases, where she would be free to do the things she wished to do and be who she wished to be.
It was during these years of 'behaving' that she picked up crafting, and focused much of the attention she used to spend on exploring into making small necklaces, bracelets, collars for her kitten Glinda, and items out of whatever she could find, and then it'd grow more and more.
Small toys, sculpture, tools. She loved to create almost as much as she loved her adventures, and her parents appreciated the slight change in focus as it kept her out of trouble until the day finally came when she recieved her own letter.
It was the absolute BEST day ever when it finally came, and it was all she could talk about for weeks to come as she prepared for the day when she would board the train and face the biggest adventure she had experienced in her life thus far. Life was just beginning for young Matilda Blackburn, and she could not WAIT! Eventually the day came and her entire family came to see her off, including her beloved grandmother who snuck in one final gift right before she boarded the train. A pair of beautiful ruby red slippers.

- Personality: A very social animal, this cat acts motherly to most any animal and people that she encounters. Glinda was a gift to Matilda from her Grandmother, and has looked after her in the years since, becoming a playmate and one of her closest friends. She's an extremely sweet cat, and takes to perching in/on weird places and just purring as loud as possible. One of her favorite places to be is dresser drawers and sleeping people's faces. Knowing this, Matilda has been advised by her parents to keep an eye on the cat to ensure she doesn't accidentally cause an allergic reaction in any of her housemates.
