what i think it is, from what ive learned, is basicly japanese singers, who have their own avatar, and there are video clips for the songs that these people make with the characters that represent them singing.
there is also MMD (Miku Miku Dance) which is a program i got and that you can download, and im pretty sure it was to extend the fan-base by letting the fans make their own videos to the songs. (though i only use it to mess up miku..hehe)
and thats basicly all i know,
i really like the songs though, theyre quite addictive

I think it was just the fact of the avatars how they looked.. XD I'll admit I love their costumes.
But yeah, I tried "getting into it" but I guess the fandom killed it for me, I've met some vocaloid fans who- let's say their mary-sueness blinded me and had me in RAEG MOED- simply made me to stay away...
Yeah I heard about the MMD. XD I've seen some youtube vids.
