Description
Final concept art for Proto, the main character of my final year university group project. Went through numerous different iterations of clothing, face, etc, before we settled on this. We wanted him to look lanky and alien, but at the same time humanoid in order to make it easier for the audiences to sympathize with him.Drawing characters isn't really my strong point, however, I did enjoy texturing him and if I didn't have a tonne of other concept art to do for the project, I would have gladly sunk in another few days into the detailing.

Amazing detail on the face. Wish the armor was just as fleshed out, but I understand this is a concept ... but the face, the face is wonderful. Especially the eyes, and, yes, the textures. Thank you for sharing! He does remind me of that amphibious creature from Hellboy somewhat, I've got to say.

Thanks! Yeah I would have loved to have had the time to flesh out the armour to that level of detail as well, however I've just been too busy with other university work. I'm the sole concept artist in my team so I've had to spend time drawing characters, environments, lineart etc, and then there's also my individual project which takes up just as much time by itself.
I hadn't looked at the creature from Hellboy for inspiration, but now that you mention it I can totally see the resemblance. I think I mostly looked at Salarians / Drell from Mass Effect, although I've tried to keep it as different as possible.
