Aliens! Need I explain further?

I'll do it anyway though.

Pretty simple, race of human-like aliens with the peculiar trait of fusing their body with another of their species.

It is in some ways similar to the anglerfish here on Earth, with some key differences. First of all, both parties keep their individual brains in tact after merging, acting as two individuals on one body. Secondly, unlike the Anglerfish, they do not merge to reproduce. It is instead something they do after reaching maturity to complete their growth. As their bodies are designed to go through this process, ignoring it for too long can have some unfortunate results for the alien in question. The merging of bodies allows them to then go on and mate with another pair and reproduce.

Choosing who to merge with is very important, as making a bad choice can have devastating results for the rest of their life. The bond between the pair of merged aliens is an incredibly strong one, quite different from a romantic one.

I haven't really thought any more than that about them, so if you have an name idea for this species of alien let me know! Or hell, any ideas for them at all would be cool to hear, like cultures or their home planet.
