Very accurate (as far as I know) and cool drawing !
I'm a Turk myself and love medieval history, especially western civilizations, but I also enjoy a lot reading about the medieval islamic world. I'm mostly interested in the 10th, 11th and 12th century Turkish armies. However I have a lot of difficulty finding sources. Books who treat these subjects are rare in Turkey and the rest I could find were mostly Osprey books. It annoys me because in Turkey, the teaching of history really sucks... unfortunately I grew up with the traditional janissary image as the medieval Turk (even though the Janissaries only appeared in the late Medieval era) and after checknig my childhood drawings, I noticed I always drew Turkish warriors wearing 16th-17th century clothing and no armour at all (which is very ridiculous). What kind of sources did you use ? I would love it if you would send them to me thanks!

Dude, I'd love to help you. Believe me. Unfortunately, I've done this drawing so many years ago, my feeble brain cells have no idea anymore.
But turkish history is amazing, and I'm very fond of it. The sejulks, and later the ottomans, were some of the most interesting powers of medieval times. It's a shame we practically don't study about them here in the West, especially their political system.

Yeah I noticed that. I grew up in the French educational system and we NEVER mention Turks except for the siege of Constantinople in 1453 and their involvement in WWI, which is basically nothing compared to the effect it had on Western powers. It's also the case with many countries around the world unfortunately. For instance we don't study medieval Arab states neither except for a few quick words. We also don't study the Balkans much.

I really see where George R. R. Martin get his inspiration from in his Ice and Fire series after watching many of your drawings.

Se o Império Turco-Otomano sobreviveu até a Primeira Guerra Mundial, esse exército devia ser dos bons!

I like your drawings. I too read a lot of ancient history, and I find the battles and tactics used very interesting. If you haven't discovered them yet, you should check out Osprey Publishing. They are illustrated military histories. You can google the art online. Angus McBride was one of their regular artists, and he was pretty good. By the way, there are computer games like Rome Total War, and Medieval Total War 2 that are really good historical warfare games. There are mod communities for these games that have updated Rome Total War. Look up Roma Surrectum 2 forums and look for unit details from the various factions. It is a great source for visual information. Keep up the work.

Hi there belisarius
First of all, thank you very much for the complimets, military history is pretty much what I'm interested in.
I have several Osprey collections, especially one about WWI and II soldiers, and I really appreciate their work, using it for several of my drawings (like the persians at nmy Gaugamela drawing). And about the games, believe me, you won't find a bigger rome, medieval, empire or napoleon total war fan than me. I use to play all of them, and I regularly visit the Total War Center to check out the latest mods, which improves 100% the original game. My Turkish Infantry drawing was inspired in the "Broken Crescent" mod for MTWII
Once again, thanks a lot, and I will try to keep it up!

I don't have any modern titles by Osprey, but their ancient military titles are excellent. I was thinking of attempting a drawing of the Persians (Sassanids) fighting the Romans, but we'll see. I hear they are working on a new Rome Total War game. They should use the guys who work on Roma Surrectum 2, they did such a thorough job. I have heard of broken crescent, but have never tried it. I stopped doing campaigns because it took too much time, rather I just had mock battles against the AI. But I'm sure you know, there is no feeling like winning against an enemy that has you outnumbered and outclassed. Keep crankin' out your drawings. Who knows, one day you could make an Osprey title.
