You can groom it's normal coat into fancy poodle cuts that stays for 5 days and then reverts to its natural coat but the base coast never change

Actually, you can style it in the only street to the center of Lumiose city that is open before you come back for the fifth badge. It's also the street with the evolution stone merchant and the healing herbs merchant.

I don't use smudge tool I just lower the Opacity a bit on the normal brush and smooth it out!
