Nice capture Malcolm, really like the composition and the motion of the sea. Im guessing this was filtered diagonally? Its a shame the the rocks in the sea are a lot darker than the foreground, do you have any other exposures you could blend in?

The sun was very strong behind the rock so not easy to bring out any of its detail. I used a 3 stop ND grad but cannot remember if I put it on the horizon or used it diagonally. I used levels and curves to lighten the foreground rock. I'm not entirely happy with it but hadn't submitted for a few weeks and was getting restless!

I know what you mean, shooting directly into a strong sun is hard work, I end up shooting multiple exposures and manually blending it later, its not something I like doing but its gets you a photo for all the hard work, I don't know if you've seen this but its very helpful : [link]

Great link; thanks! Never thought of using the gradient tool in radiant mode and using your fingers to mask the sun seems just so neat and simple.
