Description

BLUE MORPHO BUTTERFLY
Until I did a little research to find the name of this butterfly, a "Blue Morpho", I didn't realise the interior of the wings
were a beautiful bright blue! It's a shame it was hiding that from me when I took this photo at a local Butterfly House.

I'm always looking to improve my photography - any feedback or suggestions is highly appreciated!

I saw some of those at a little preserve in York Maine.. they dont look like much sitting but when they open those wings and show that beautiful blue!... I wasnt able to get any shots of them.. they moved too much that day

You're very lucky to see one in their natural habitat! They are very beautiful with their wings spread out! I would love to capture a photo of that

Well it's not really a natural habitat, it's a combination zoo, amusement park in York Maine..they have a butterfly conservatory building and they are located in there.. they were pretty to see.

Beautiful butterly and quite sharp shot.
Well, at least it gives a hint of light blue through the damaged parts.

The injury gives that animal and picture something special and some character though.
And it didn't lose its beauty.

How can I imagine such a "butterfly house"?

Thank you very much! Yes, it is individual and definitely has beauty

This butterfly house was quite hot, humid and was like a greenhouse with translucent windows and was full of plants. There were quite a lot of butterflies in there - if you were lucky, one could have flown and landed on you

Oh, so you mean there are actual houses for butterflies?
Are they free to come and go or is it a closed structure?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EmMelody In reply to MoonFlowerSax [2017-03-29 00:51:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's one large and closed off greenhouse with some plastic doors which allow public through, but also prevents the butterflies from escaping. Most are not native to where this photo was taken (which is a colder environment to where they come from) so the butterfly greenhouse replicates a more natural and humid temperature for them to live in

It is pretty much a zoo for butterflies, but they are hatched out from chrysalis. Some rarer species are taken from areas which are not environmentally healthy (or may be destroyed such as crops or farmland) in order to save them and help them repopulate

Sounds like they have more room than zoo animals, though.
And thank you again for explaining and the info.

Beautiful!Β

When you say you took this photo at a local "butterfly house" ... you don't mean a house made out of ... butterflies?

No, I was joking.

Was it a house where butterflies hang out, and meet other butterflies? Like a sort of butterfly drop in centre?

Outstanding shot, it looks as though it may have had a bit of a runin with a bird. That may be why it was so shy!

EmMelody In reply to coldstares [2017-02-14 01:12:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes, shame he was missing a part of his wing Luckily this was in an area where birds couldn't access, unless one managed to sneak in unnoticed Thank you very much for the compliment
