I really love this. He has the look of a half-starved orphan boy but also has the aristocratic features that let him pretend to be a noble's son. Beautiful contrast in the lighting and coloring, especially the bold highlights. A perfect character study.

Pretend nothing. His mother is the missing Lady Lackless. So he is a noble's son.

Also, this painting is fantastic! The background colors really add to the mood.

whoops. Β Of course he is, sorry Β I was referring to the scene where he sticks his nose up in the air, marches down the street wrapped in a towel, and convinces a tailor to fit him for new clothes. Β He says in the book "I looked like some young noble's son ... and that gave me an idea." Β Anyway ...

Yeah, I love it! Β I loved it before, but the changes do make him look older and more masculine.
