!!!NOTICE!!!
I don't recommend to use my config anymore! I no longer support it.
It only can be used with a very old version of foobar2000, namely v0.9.5.2. This is because the config is based on the "PanelsUI" component, which only supports this version of foobar. PanelsUI is no longer developed, and was a very inefficient and bad way of creating custom user interfaces to begin with. It's slow, buggy and consumes lots of memory.
I suggest you to download the latest version of foobar2000 instead, and use some of the newest, popular configs from the foobar category here on DeviantArt.
There are many-many better looking configs, with much more features than this ages old config of mine. I don't follow the foobar2000 config scene anymore, but It's even possible that you can find a config that can be configured to look very similar to AvAorange++.
I took down the downloadable zip file. If you absolutely need it send me a message.

Why don't slashes show properly? For example, when I play an AC/DC track it shows up as AC,DC instead of AC/DC even though the tag is properly edited.

Are people still using this config....? In a previous comment I wrote down why it isn't a good idea to use it anymore.
As for your problem: I don't know why it does that. It's probably because the handling of some special characters isn't perfect somewhere. If you absolutely want to make it work, then you'll need to learn about titleformat scripting, or how was it called.

I just tried the config with a fresh install of foobar2000, and the artist stripes are working for me. The Artiststripe folder is in the foobar2000 directory, you don't even have to create it. The filename of the images have to be exactly the names of the artists. So for example for In Flames it has to be "in flames.png" (big or small letters doesn't matter). And of course you need to have songs in your playlist from said artists, that you have pictures of in the artiststripe directory.
Maybe you need to change the grouping of your playlist too. Right click anywhere in your populated playlist, and select Group By -> artist>directoryname
Anyways, I don't really recommend using my config, because it can be used only with this really old version of Foobar. It's slow, buggy. (It's four years old!) Plus the config is based on PanelsUI which is a very bad way for creating user interface.
I suggest you to download the newest version of foobar, and use some of the newest popular configs from the foobar category here on DeviantArt.

Right click somewhere outside of the chronflow panel, eg. the underlined chronflow button, and select settings.
In the code search for this very line, there is only one exact match:
$panel(Chronplayinfo,Track Display,$eval($get(LP.w)+$get(RP.w)/2-$get(Rchronw)/2+1),60,$get(Rchronw),150,)
delete that line.
above the deleted line you can find one with the argument "ChronRT"
make that look like this (two numbers to change):
$panel(ChronRT,Chronflow,$eval($get(LP.w)+4+10),50,$eval($get(RP.w)-6-20),$sub(%_height%,120),)

Right click in the playlist -> Group by -> directoryname.

How can I change the song title font in the playlist to "proper" case? I don't want lower or upper case

Open the settings of the playlist, and in the code editor search for the occurrences of
$upper(%title%)
and leave there only %title%.
For other text elements search for more $upper functions.

I've noticed on your config & some screenshots of FooAVA 1.05 some folk have the artist name ie Finntroll in orange in both playlist column & now playing & Kalmah in green....how do you change the font colour from white?

You can change color themes in the settings dialog.
The button for settings can be located in the bottom right corner with label "S".

By the way, you must edit the script of that panel to change the texts color.

I am not the programmer of lyrics component (and of neither component)
Its not "mine".
This component searches an online database for lyrics. Not every song have lyrics in this database.
Maybe you can manually search for it on the internet, and manually put a correctly named text file into the lyrics component save directory.

After you have changed the desired options, try to immediately close, then restart foobar.

Sorry, but I don't plan to make new version of AvAorange++.
Instead I plan to make a modification to Br3tt's Xchange config to look more like AvAorange.(because I use Xchange right now with newest version of foobar)
But I can't tell you when, I have no time nowadays to deal with foobar configs.
Until that I recommend you to try Xchange, it can be used with newest foobar, and runs on Win7 fine.

Your choice.
But take these into consideration:
Big memory footprint is basically a PanelsUI thing.
Crash can caused by some components, not by the config.
So use the newest version of components.
(dlls provided with this config are not the newest.)

No, I think.
Maybe the album art panel supports it, with the proper settings. (AA tab on left)
I never used embedded artwork...

at least the little "up-down" arrow button must work.

Why not?
You need two spectrum channel panel, positioned like this.
Only difference is between them, that the bottom one's config is: rotate 180, reverse channel-pos, reverse freq-axis ON.
(and some minor color setting differences)
