Description "I will bear this stigma for the rest of my life. I hear all of them each night and I have nightmares about what I have done. Look down on me, hate me, pity me, it makes no difference I will shoulder the burden I carry and do my duty to pay back the blood debt that I owe this nation. I will never repay it in my lifetime, and I am fully aware of that, but I was redeemed by my father and for that I will never rest until the threats that face us are gone. I am truly sorry" -Saffire

Saffire:

Saffire was born around the outbreak of the Draken war. Born to the Emperor and the Empress the Union celebrated her birth although the differences in her appearance begged questions the medical staff and also Hugo brushed it off as uneven genetics, not uncommon given the very nature of the Angels. Although this would be revealed in time for the truth Saffire enjoyed a brief life living as a younger sister to Kahalin and raised by Myric and Duneyer in the Imperial Palace on Earth. Saffire like any Angel grew rapidly, and consumed whatever information she could take in, demonstrating her aptitude in use of both fire and light that her parents could master Saffire even as a young child was a force to be reckoned with. That was until the night she was stolen from the Union

It is unknown how Sotek got into the palace so easily but he did, breaking in and slaughtering Phoenix Guards who stood in his way by the time the alarm was raised and the Emperor managed to get to Saffires room it was just in time to watch Sotek snatch the young girl and disappear into thin air. Rage followed from the Emperor and Empress and the Union mourned the young girls loss and kidnapping, with it being quite a blow to morale so early on in the pivotal conflict. Not much is known about Saffire during her time with the Draken and Sotek, she never speaks of what she endured in those young days not even to her own parents. What is assumed is that Sotek brought her to be twisted by the Draken, something which was easily done due to Saffire in fact being his child, having made love to the Empress several years earlier during a rather interesting scenario. Unknown to Sotek however and the Emperor Saffire was molded by Xol'Coatl and used as one of the 'commanders' of the Draken legions, looking up to Sotek as her father and being twisted into a sadistic killer. It wouldn't be until a year later that the first sightings of a new Draken general would be made by the Union only to be confirmed as a dark angel who tore apart front line forces. Horrified Myric and Duneyer investigated, there they came face to face on the front line with their daughter, deranged and insane Saffire taunted them and berated them for being bad parents and allowing her to be turned into a living weapon all the while attempting to kill both of them. Unable to kill their own daughter Myric managed to incapacitate Saffire in the hope of capturing her but was thwarted when Sotek appeared and defended her driving the Union back and preventing her rescue.

It would be this way for most of the Draken war, Saffire fighting alongside her true father, killing and butchering as she razed cities and culled populations for the meta organism to feast upon. She felt no remorse for her actions or when fighting the other Angels including her older brother who she almost killed. By the time of the Last Battle of Sol Saffire was a known enemy of the Union and hated by all who knew of her, still it would not be her fate to die like the Draken for when Sotek finally turned on the Draken and helped Myric destroy Xol'Coatl Saffire broke free from the chains in her mind and body, the ties to the meta organism and more were broken and she was faced full force with what she had become.

It was her own mother who in that very moment who she had been fighting who stopped Saffire from ending her own life there and then as she tore her own vocal chords screaming in abject hatred and terror. Reduced to little more than an emotional wreck Saffire begged her mother to kill her and that she only deserved to die. It would take many months of incarceration and mental stabilization from Myric, Duneyer and Reina to finally stop her suicidal attempts every time they unrestrained her. With everything she had done her parents could not bring themselves to kill her, even when Duneyer revealed to Myric that Saffire truly was Soteks and that Saffire must never truly known he could not wish her to die. Despite the rage inside him the Emperor promised to not let her die, and still treat her like his daughter. In an act which caused a great deal of dissent the Emperor publicly pardoned his own daughter. This brought outcry from much of the galaxy and resulted in the Emperor placing her in a position where she would have to atone for her actions, she would be given the title of 'Redeemed' Although Saffire would feel that she was anything but. It was her mission to fight and act wherever the Union needed it, if that meant giving her life so that others may live then so be it. While this was still unpopular among Congress and the Union it would not be openly challenged, for the Union had far larger issues to worry about during the rebuilding period although the issue would repeatedly crop up later.

Saffire would after being redeemed live a life of constant change and movement, going from area to area helping where she could or fighting in small intensity conflicts where she would almost always be shunned and hated by the troops and people she encountered. It was a marked life and Saffire accepted all of it, letting the certainty of her actions guide her. She would meditate constantly when not in battle and would rarely interact with others almost avidly avoiding any public spectacles. Being distanced by the Angels and even her own mother the only individual she would find a bond with would be her half brother Kahalin who supported her and helped her where he could. As for Sotek, despite never being told he was her true father Saffire would despise him, any time where he and she would cross paths resulted in her seeing the red mist and trying to kill him for what he did to her, she would never forgive him.

Saffire finally met her end during the Noontide war, when the Solarch He'Rious attempted to kill Kahalin, the then Emperor after succeeding his father. The Solarch being empowered beyond Kahalins abilities struck down the Emperor and was to kill him but Saffire, defiant and determined stopped him. She would fight the Solarch non stop for an hour as the Angel Guard helped bring the shattered form of Kahalin to safety and despite her inferior power to the new siphon invigorated Solarch Saffire never took a single step back. It was a fight which would ring true throughout the Union as the women who had brought so much death and hate stood defiantly in her gold and blue armour a beacon of hope who had saved their Emperor and allowed their troops to escape. In the end Saffire could not hope to defeat He'Rious and in her final moments she sliced open the Solarchs eyes, blinding him with a wound that he would never recover from. Moments later he would atomize Saffire, and in those moments she would finally find the power to forgive herself for her actions.

Despite her tortured history her actions against the Nakai and the saving of Kahalin earned her true forgiveness in the Unions eyes and a monument was erected for her in the Hall of Heroes, a true tale that redemption always finds a way.

"A life spent in service is one that a person chooses. A life spent repenting, is one you must choose to continue. All that is determined is when you can rest at ease knowing you have done your part." -- Bo'Shyen Proverb

"I've seen many things in my time serving the Union. I have seen worlds die, fleets and armies annihilated, men and women suffering for someone else's mistakes. But all that...all that was nothing compared to seeing her cry.

Minutes, maybe hours passed. The only sound was her sobbing. Her endless, devastated, heartbroken sobbing. I doubt I have heard anything that impactful, that...that sad.

I slowly walked toward her. Despite me making very little sound, she noticed instantly. She stopped sobbing for a brief second or so, looked up at me, then went right back to sobbing. That never happened before. Usually, when she was sad or upset, she would let no one approach her. Maybe this time, she was too broken to care.

Finally, when I got close enough, I did it. I hugged her.

Now, looking back, I realize that it was a stupid thing to do, considering all the ways she could hurt me for getting physical contact with her without her express permission. And yet, at the time I didn't even care about the risk. This was no god-like being before me, but a girl in pain, in tears. And she needed support. She needed me to show her that she was not alone.

And, believe it or not, she hugged me back." Captain Salah Mashwanis, Union Special Detachment Eighty-Six Charlie, to a Union Navy ensign following Saffire's demise
