This guy has been floating around for a year. I was going to do this pet for last Halloween, but for whatever reason(I think I chose to focus on the zombie costume trunk instead), he never got finished. Of course, the sketch was VERY different then, and honestly it's probably a good thing I waited.

This new pose came along much the same way the DM Mahar did. I was sketching in Painter 11, and this pose sort of happened. I was going to abandon the eye gem thing, though. The new concept was that he was being taken over by fungi. If that doesn't make much sense to you, that's ultimately why it was scrapped. It would just be a lot to explain, and probably too confusing. I thought it looked cool, but there wasn't a whole lot of logic or story behind it.

Even then, I found that this pose worked well with the original concept. He's bumbling around, because he CAN somehow see out of all those eyes, and it's terribly confusing and horrible. My idea was that Mahars love to learn and gain knowledge. Maybe this one didn't want to put in the effort it would take to read all the tomes or whatever he wanted to do, and he wished that he could see everything. Unfortunately, he got what he wished for, and was stuck in this nightmarish existence. He tried to claw the eyes out, he even sewed shut his original two, but eventually went insane and died. And yet, he is tormented even in death.

Or something like that. I don't know who exactly would grant a wish like that, or if it even makes sense, but that's how I envisioned it.
