I showed a little sneak peek of this piece a few days ago, and it's now the banner for my Patreon page, but I wanted you all to see it! This features my long-standing favorite OC, Erin. I am pretty much doing nothing but fanart nowadays, between all the commissions, and the Patreon Exclusives (Harley Quinn is coming soon, by the way), so it was nice to take a break from that. One of the things that makes fanart challenging and more time-consuming is that I have to regularly go back and forth between the piece, and the reference photos, to make sure the costume is accurate. With original characters, on the other hand, I tend to just make up the costume and everything as I go along. I'll decide on a pose, and while I'm sketching out the costume on top of the body, I'll think to myself, "Hmm, what shapes or forms would look good with this pose? Does it make sense to give Erin overly-detailed or complicated pants, when the legs are mostly hidden by the table? Because her arms are stretched up, we'll be able to see her flexed stomach; let's give her an exposed midriff, then. Her head is tilted to the right, away from us, so let's give her a shaved side on the left of her head." My characters do tend to have consistent features like color themes, and styles, but I almost always redesign them in some way or another whenever I do a new piece.

With this one in particular, I wanted to do a classic "feet up" pose, at a 3/4 angle; this would allow us to see Erin's torso, and some of her legs, while still being relatively-compact -- as opposed to a full length-wise shot, or one where she's facing us head-on, with her feet on either side. For the costume, Erin usually has some kind of shoulder armor and gauntlets, and this was just the latest minor redesign in those. For the pants, it could have been anything, from little booty shorts, to long pants with stirrups, but I was just in a capris/rolled-up pants kind of mood; there's just something great about the exposed calves, IMO. For Erin's costume design, I try to keep in mind a somewhat superheroic silhouette; that is, bulked-up shoulders and forearms (thanks to the armor), and sharp v-shaped lines on her chest (like with the turned-up collar), to accentuate her neck and broaden her shoulders a bit. The harness straps visually separate the arms from the torso, which makes the chest look fuller. The decision to give her a little lone kneepad was to keep some continuity of color from the top to the bottom, and to exhibit the idea that she wears armor on major contact points and joints as protection -- otherwise, she would look just a little too underdressed from the ribs down. Of course, if Erin was in actual danger, she wouldn't be running around with her belly exposed and her feet bare, so she's obviously relaxing here. XD

As always, Natalie Dormer is my go-to reference for this character's face.

For the feet, I wanted to be consistent with Erin being this long, sinewy character, with a slim, cut form, typical for someone with an active lifestyle; so, that means lengthy, thin arches and toes, with just a bit of dirt, because she's a busy busy gal.
