Description Yet another "Divine Bovine"... a winged calf looking happily over at a faery at the base of its tail.

This was part of the series I started in 98 of winged bovines... it was just a cute idea I had randomly as I began to shape them as a race to inhabit this fantastic world I had begun to invision at the time.

I love cows (wings or no wings). I love your work, everything is so mythical and original. I'm going this and hope you don't mind if I add you to my watch list.

Oooh thank you!

There is actually quite alot more cow themed things that I have going on, which I have been keeping under wraps. Maybe I will start leaking some of it, but I grew up near them and doing rodeo (although I was always a Horse event sort of girl, cows though, they have a very special place in my heart also... more on that later)

I dont mind at all, and thank you for the watch, I am glad you enjoy my stuff!

That calf doesn't look happy to me oO; it looks really worried. The angle of the ears, expression around the eyes, and the posture itself all made me think of a frightened calf, as if its ready to flee, but taking a moment to first suss it all out.

It is a beautiful drawing, though. Lovely style and the postures are great. Beautiful work.

the angles of cow ears are one thing that has been something of a connumdrum for me, as different breeds seem to have such different ear set possitions. One breed with have very high set and carried ears and others have these long droopy ones that hang... there is such tremendous variety within cattle for those things, same with dewlaps, and those belly dewlaps... I think it depends on what kind of cattle your accustomed to being arround.

In this one, I think my inspiration was this shape I saw this one particular little brangus calf make all the time before it would leap about and try to play. He had this strange habbit of licking his bum... so he was always folding himself in half to try and get at the itchy spot. With the winged version, I sank it down in the front end more, as if the calf was discovering its wings and stretching them out... I had this idea that in the next few seconds the calf would be springing into the air and fluttering about with the faery, but it was sort of this strange moment before playing together where the Calf and faery were getting acquainted with one another for a moment.

LOL these things are all very interpretive of course, and you can see all kinds of things in expressions when they lack context, but that was the idea at anyrate.

Yeah, I grew up around Angus and Hereford cattle, and hand raised a good few of them, too.

But I grew to know expressions through the horses we own... Especially my mare -_-'' Its amazing to watch their faces, not just their ears, to read what they're feeling. Its why I saw fear in that calf, rather than playfulness ^^

Ah well, its always cool to see what others see in the same image. I guess that is why art is so well received world over. Its very open ended ^^

Well of course it could be startled... there IS something peculiar on its bum

I know what you mean though, you can sense so much from their eyes and the little very subtle expressions they make with the flesh arround it, or even just a little body posture... anyone else would miss it, but if you really know them, you know precisely what it is they are feeling and telling you.
