Description Was sort of experimenting with this one, but I knew I wanted to try to keep the facet design I normally use for shading/colouring Steven Universe characters, and I'm glad that I did. Sapphire's hair looks really neat and I definitely like how the skin turned out. The fire could be a bit brighter, but I couldn't really figure out how to get it done effectively. Oh well.

I like the geometric coloring that's going on in this piece, definitely different and creative! <3

For me, it brings a whole new depth to the characters

Really, beautiful work, quick question. Do you use Sai paint tool or Photoshop for the art ?

I use Macromedia Flash 8 for the lineart and either Macromedia or Photoshop CS6 for the colouring.

There are free programs such as firealpaca and Krita, you just need time and tutorials to get used to them. And if you really want to improve in digital art, I'd suggest investing in a tablet, even if it's not super fancy.

Sorry, not particularly XD I kind of just went for whatever program I had available to me when I was younger (which was Flash mostly, and photoshop for a short while--only got it again recently). I've heard about other programs that people use, but I have no experience with most of them.
I think that if you have access to a lot of different ones, then you should experiment. If you don't then you should take whichever one you can at the time and develop your skills as much as you can with what you have. On one hand, if the program you use is very underdeveloped and lacking in particular tools then you'll teach yourself to get around that and convey your work in new and innovative ways. On the other, if the program you have is very high quality, you'll get first hand experience with a lot of tools that can help you learn a whole bunch of weird tricks, and having all those tools at your disposal will more likely encourage you to experiment with them to see what they do.
For example, I know of an excellent artist named Spoonfayse. A lot of their early works look at though they're done either in paint or at least a program very similar to it. Because of it, I feel as though they developed a really unique and minimalist style. They've branched out into other programs over the years, but you can still recognize a lot of what they taught themselves to do with the potentially limited programs they had available.

I'm a terrible art critic, so I'll just say that I love it. Garnet forever.
