Peridot had lived a fairly average life with his average family. When he was younger, he had gotten lost in the forest near his home in Lazuli Heights and was attacked by wild timber wolves, thus how he got his shredded ear.
He was particularly close to his older sister, and the family basically had a tight bond. However, one winter Peridot got very sick with pneumonia. He never really believed it was severe, even though it was. Eventually, he ended up dying and he was taken away to the Underhaven. There, it was decided that he would be tried out to be a Ghost, and later became an official Oracle Ghost. And that was odd, since most Oracles were usually much older or more experienced. But Peridot proved his worth as one with his great forewarning skills.
As each Ghost has their own skills and abilities, Oracle Ghosts are the smallest group with the ability to sense oncoming disaster. He also possesses standard Ghost abilities, such as flying, intangibility, invisibility, and--although never been used-- possession.
Peridot had spent his first few months in the land of the undead feeling like a stranger, until he befriended an Angel Ghost named Iris, and the two eventually became close over time.
Peridot--once he had finished his training and was allowed to go to the mortal world--often hung around his old home in Lazuli Heights, missing his family who had moved away shortly after his death. He would also pick out his grave in the Lazuli Heights cemetery, but never had enough nerve to go and see what his body looked like. He often found himself drawn to homes where there was currently a sick child, due to the way he has died. And one day, he found himself drawn to his old home around the time Dash and Zeryl decided to stay there.
Despite the fact that he was more or less forbidden to make contact with mortals, he did anyway, and eventually made friends with them.
