I am sure that I am not the only person who can relate to this statement. I have enough of stupid fanbrats who tell me that I can’t ship two characters because they aren’t gay. It’s not your fucking decision to choose their sexuality! Those characters aren’t real. They aren’t real persons so it’s impossible to ask them which gender they prefer. It’s just not possible. Of course there are hints or some pairings that make more sense than others. But saying that a character is not gay is not a valid argument as no one but the creators knows how the story and characters will develop in the future. And most of the creators don’t care what the fans do and what they ship.

Just take Shaman King as an example. In the beginning Ryu is a true womanizer and flirts with every girl he meets and wants them to become his shaman queen. Later on he meets Lyserg who is a boy. And guess what. Ryu also likes Lyserg and flirts with him even after he gets to know that Lyserg is a male. He doesn’t care about gender and even tries to kiss him. He wants to hug him and is extremely heart broken when Lyserg dissappears. There is a full episode dedicated to him and his feelings towards Lyserg and how much he likes him. And you still call him straight? He is at least bisexual as he obviously shows interest into Lyserg who is a boy.

It can happen that a man (woman) grows to like another man (woman) or that he (she) has some latent homosexuality. You can’t see the sexual preference of a person or a fictional character. It is nothing that you can call a character trait. Moreover love isn’t defined by gender. If you still think that love is just about making a family and placing children into the world you just don’t know what true love actually is.

If you are a fan of this genre it is almost impossible to avoid those rabid anti-yaoi fantards who just can’t shut up and think that they have to act like the pairing-police in order to clean up their fandom. Those people can’t accept that other people unlike to them enjoy same sex pairings so they need arguments to show us how disrespectful and stupid we are. The most well-known arguments are

• But they aren’t gay! U can no ship them!!11!1
• Stop making straight characters gay

which actually means “How dare you to make MY fav character into a faggot?!”. Those people claim themselves to be fans of this certain character and they can’t stand it when other people turn them into faggots and don’t share their opinion. They act extremely butthurt and repeat their stupid lines all over again without listening to reasonable arguments of us fans who don’t ship genitals but characters. We ship two characters because we like them together. We see more than their gender. We see two characters who would make a good couple regardless of canon. They don’t have to be possible in order to be interesting. Furthermore most of the sane yaoi fans support their characters being in character. Just because we slash it doesn't mean that we turn the characters OOC.

I just hate how some people act like canon-nazis and whine about yaoi/yuri couples. It’s not your fandom alone. There are people outthere who enjoy yaoi/yuri and who love to see new fanarts and fanfictions of their favourite couples. You’re not everyone. Just because you don’t like to see yaoi/yuri you can’t forbid others to enjoy it. We don’t forbid you your precious het because we have some respect. We are mature enough not to bash on het. For me I refuse to accept the above mentioned arguments as valid reasons against a certain couple. The characters aren't real anyway so nobody gives a fuck about how likely they are as a couple. It's just for fun. That's why it is called fandom. If you can't handle fandom just don't look for fanarts or fanfictions.
