Sometimes...
...I like imagining Atem and Anzu being together past DSOD. Atem coming back and living a life as a pro duelist and right hand of the Kaiba Corporation.
When Atem decides – this decison however is part of my future fanfiction plan and follows actual Egyptian history of the 18th dynasty that was filled with conflict, war and hunger and evermore threatened by rivaling countries that would envy Kemet (Egypt) and their blessed Nile – to follow Kaiba to the present time, he realizes that he can no longer mourn what he has lost, but needs to go on. He cannot return, knowing that there is no place for him left, considering that the Great Pharaoh Atem who was the only one known to history to have the blessing of the Gods and the creator of light behind him has been confirmed dead. He left because he had no other choice in order to save his people and end the war that not even his father could truly end with the power of sennen items. When their strongest rival demand the head of Pharaoh Atem, they bring them the head of a dead soldier and Kaiba doesn't give Atem the chance to answer him back, taking Atem with him in order to save his life. (If I ever finish Spherium and Blinded by You, I might actually start writing down that story. xD)
Still torn between his emotions – guilt on the one hand and overwhelming powerlessness on the other – he is delighted by Anzu who still supports him, encourages him to go on and makes sure to make him know that she would never let any of her precious friends down. So, she attends him to several Duel Monsters galas and they see the world together, slowly leaving all their troubles behind them and Atem accepting his new life and treasuring his precious friends and the woman who wouldn't let him down, even when he started yelling at her and told her to leave. The woman who would still come back and make him lunch when he was sitting frustrated on the coach and pitying himself.
They're supposed to be around 25-26 on this picture, both living in America. Atem is the director in command for Kaiba Corp. US and Kaiba trusts him a lot. Atem's gotten taller, too and is also known as the best Duel Monsters player in the entire world, which is why he often attends partys where he talks to other duelists. In my headcanon, Atem and Anzu are living together and are both devoted to their jobs.

“If it wouldn't have been for you, I wouldn't have known what to do. I know that Kaiba tries his best to give me a purpose in life and as my boss he is just as terrifying as inspiring, but there were times where I just wanted to give up. There were times where neither playing games nor Duel Monsters could motivate me.”
“But you're stronger than you used to be now. Only because you wanted to look forward and wouldn't give up. To be honest, when you and Yuugi still shared a body, it was you who made me realize how important it is to never give up. I know... I kinda glorified you back then, but I still think that way. You're always be my hero.”
“And you're always be my heroine.”
“Of course! Every hero needs a woman to hold him, right?”
“Hey, are you flirting with me right now?”
“D-depends on the answer... ♥”

I love the headcanons you wrote. I can see Anzu supporting him and refuses to leave his side even if Atem doesn't believe he deserved her.
