I Β thought I heard the 765 being labeled 767 and then after time passed, back to 765 all over again.

You would've heard correctly. Back in the 1960s, when 765 was put on-display in Ft. Wayne, the engine was decorated as NKP 767. 765 once again was decorated as 767 for the last part of 2017. I was behind a cursed engine, and in a cursed car (26 were scalded in a wreck in 1948).
