Because of the awesome dress.

Very Lovely Dress. You remind me of Lucita Y Aragonese from the old White Wolf Tabletops in this picture.

You've always look splendid in historical costume and this is no different. Online D&D, eh? Maybe I should check it out since I've played off and on since 1978. Are you a sorceress?

And I am sure a formidable one. Love the elegance and dignity of your attire; it denotes a serious magic user. I just pulled out my "Dungeons & Dragons Rules for Fantastic Medieval Role Playing Adventure Game Campaigns" by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, 3d Edition, December 1979. Everything you needed to know about it 46 pages. The game kind of expanded.
How do you play D&D online? Is it like setting up a conference for an IM role play? In any event, if you are playing with a group of people you are friendly and/or compatible with; it is incredible fun and a good session leaves mentally tired but emotionally satisfied.

We're playing 3.5 - the main rulebook is 300+ pages. I've skimmed it, read the bits that are directly relevant to me, and I'm relying on the GM to help me out a lot.
Yes, we've been playing in an IM conference. The GM tells us what's going on, we describe actions, and I have this for rolling dice:

(I also have a pdf of my character sheet, which does some automatic calculation of stats.)
We've played one session as a smaller group in Second Life as well, which was pretty much the same thing, plus the visual element. There's a couple of people I knew already and some who are new to me, but it's a pretty good group.

The last group I was in for about 2 years, used the 2nd Edition of Advanced D&D Player's Handbook but we never allowed the rules to get in the way of a good role play.
I went to that link - nifty! The few folks who want to role play with me know that I will create the scenario, play all npc's, the villains and run the role play - all they have to do is play Batgirl or whomever. I have a 20 sided die by me and in combat, role it so that I am not subconsciously running it as a predetermined action. I enjoy surprises and a player who can provide them gets suitably generous modifiers.
'Automatic calculation of stats' sounds wonderful. My pathetic math skills were always challenged in creating characters, (one reason why I tried to keep them among the living).
I hope your group understands how important you are to the success of the mission and fights valiantly to keep you free from orc or goblin annoyances while you prepare your spells.

Ha, well I spent a big chunk of our first mission being under our nemesis's charm (I seem to have a tendency to have my own techniques used against me) and throwing most of my enchantment spells at them. They seemed to handle it reasonably well.

There is a learning curve. Anyway, the most fun people to play with are not necessarily the most accomplished players. As an Enchantress, (and Eleanor is such a sedate, but elegant and mediavally proper name for your character), you can cast a spell by saying, "I cast the Mystic Bolt Of Power at the orc chief." Or you can type, "I throw my arms heavenward, my head back and cry to the heavens, 'Oh Goddess Penelope, grant your humble worshipper the power of the Mystic Bolt!' Lightening flashes from the sky and strikes my upraised hands. I crackle with energy and turn to face the horrid orc, 'I strike you with the Mystic Bolt Of Power, oh dastardly one!' and a flash of silver light streaks from my fingers!...... 'Gee, I'm sorry, Mildew. I didn't mean to strike our heroic dwarf warrior.' Sigh."

Let's see, this was one of my posts during the last session:
Eleanor begins to speak, her voice musical and beguiling - as she casts Hypnotism upon Sonia, Aban and Lia. "Stop. Surrender to Lady Puma. Surrender," she suggests in a breathy voice.

I'll bet your breathy voice is something to hear - that's the proper spirit for role play. A good player has a sense of the dramatic, or ham, in him/her and is not afraid to exploit the melodramatic of the situation. From the post you know Eleanor is one sexy wench, I mean Wizard.

I was trying to really play up the hypnotism-fetish aspect, it's the main focus of our game.
