Description
Drew this up late last night, and I'm pretty darn proud of the colouring for this. I really, really don't work with traditional stuff for a reason, but I've been practicing lately out of needance to improve myself..

What's lame is that there is no fancy layer settings like Luminosity to do my highlights and stuff in.

And *Zimadonna wanted me to redraw Zima as an Irken. I suppose she's the only Irken I'll ever draw in more humanly stuff like this and like it. She's wearing purple, which is different from what I'd normally imagine her in (black/pink), but the purple pencil I found was really smooth to work with

By the way. Impossible gravity going on here, my bad.

(Get better soon, Zimadonna!)

I have so many deviations of yours to comment! D:

A very feminin and human-like Irken...well, long story short, I dislike the motive, but I have to say itΒ΄s skillfully drawn and the COLOURS! Gee, the way you coloured the dress looks just wonderful!
The skin also looks great...how many colours did you use for both?
The only thing which does not look very good are the eyes in my opinion. There are no real reflections on them...

You don't have to comment on them all (: It was Turbo-Upload day meaning I just wanted to get rid of lots of deviations P:

It's alright to dislike something. Zima is a different Irken to a lot of others, but she wasn't just randomly developed to the way she is now, she grew over time.
I used a light green and light blue, and shaded with a dark blue pencil and and a black one to darken it a bit.
Yeah, highlighting is very hard for me in pencil, so I'm afraid I did quite poorly on that Thank you for being honest and say so! ^^

ItΒ΄s an inner urge! I just canΒ΄t stop! D:
XD

I know, I know. Still...my IZ universe bases on logic and the will to differentiate them from humans in some points, strictly. ThatΒ΄s just my world. I needed years to build all this up...all the logic behind it...the whole system feels like a world in my head...
No problem! ItΒ΄s really the only thing I dislike...^^
You could really do more traditional art, your colourations are cool!

I have some logic behind the boobs thing but I'm not much of a canon person to really make anything that creative. =o

I guess the logic is that she's a civilian and a natural born so they have the puberty stuff but that's all I got. To you guys it's probably rediculous cause the empire probably killed off most of them or they died off themselves long ago. (regarding sexually reproducing irkens which is ancient irkens, so it did exist at one point)

But yeah it's okay if you don't like it. XD;

DeviantIrk In reply to AnnaKlava [2010-02-19 21:48:41 +0000 UTC]

There is where our universes split. I am sorry if I sounded like thinking other people have no logic in their view on the empire!
I only meant that I stick to the basic information concerning Irkens you get - one of it that Irkens arenΒ΄t born naturally, that the only difference between the different sexes the eyelashes and antennae are and that they are a very military race. So...the origin of the Irkens, the time in which they reproduced themselfes naturally...is interpretation. The big question is whether there was such a phase and whether they did it...like humans.
I once wrote a long story...no...I rather began it, about this topic, or my interpretation based on nearly everthing I got to know about IZ (yes...I was a freak XD). I think I will rewrite and translate it once, when I find the time...

I hope you did not feel offended. ItΒ΄s really just about my view on Irkens and you have every right to draw them like that - itΒ΄s just not my world^^

I am very interested in hearing your story and theories. If you have the time please send it my way through notes. I love hearing of these things.

I agree, it's really subjective and it's unknown weather their ancestries produced sexually so it's really all theory.

I'm not offended at all! ^^ I just didn't go completely without logic, but I usually draw boobs on irkens cause I think it looks nice to me as well as my own logic. People have also come up with interesting ideas like giving the females shape without the breasts, like and draw. (A feminine figure) Everyone can have their own views and I think each and every view is interesting.

DeviantIrk In reply to AnnaKlava [2010-02-22 19:06:52 +0000 UTC]

I think itΒ΄s about time to write about it anyway. There is so much I had thought about, so many new facts...I will try to write and draw it all, offering people to understand my world and to discuss about my views! This will be interesting!

Okay, then I am relieved!^^
Oh DefectiveFal drew a female Irken without breasts, too...and it looks so feminine itΒ΄s amazing me! [link]

Thanks (: I still think I need working with the linearting (I always stuff up the legs ^^) But I'll get the hang of it. Zimadonna's character is fun to draw, she's got a figure that none of my other character's have so it's refreshing and fun! XD

really, goood job . the coloring made me very happy. art goes to teh epic folder of my collection :3.

Someone told me to be a good digitalist you have to work with traditional art first, but it seemed much the opposite for me now, because originally my colouring in pencils was not too great. I am happy with this but I favour your way of colouring with this media much more

Hehe, I noticed that! I like to see what categories people put my art in, because it can tell me somewhat of how people think of my work. Like I have a folder called "Amazing" which I reserve for images that make me go So far, I've had one person notice, and thank me for picking their artwork above all others, to be placed in the category. I feel the same when I see it when others put mine in categories as such

eni-lume In reply to enigmatia [2010-02-14 03:26:49 +0000 UTC]

haha . well, it actually doesn't make that much difference where you start to advance, in your case it's digital. if you reach the point where you understand the colors (which you've obviously reached xD), you can master multiple styles. if they don't involve additional techniques by themselves (like watercolor, always hated it cause it's just fully opposit of how i draw stuff, there you need to cover lighter parts first and then move to darker). and thank you . it's quite a compliment. though i've noticed that you're a VERY fast learner when it comes to that. i think you can easily reach my level (or style) if you want to. in fact, i'm a bit jealous of how you colored Zima. your style is a bit more.. grunge (i have no idea what it means, i just refer to the brushes for photoshop that go under that tag). i can't possibly draw like that cause i'm too obsessed about straight lines and overall smoothness.

and eh ^^. mostly people that i encounter don't have their art in categories. when i see an activity report "added to favs" i go like *roll eyes* . boring XD.

Sweetness!
And it's not IMPOSSIBLE GRAVITY! We're looking at her from an angle! (at least that's how I see it. If I twist the screen a little, to where the floor is almost level, it looks good!)

And this is pretty much amazing. I actually thought the coloring WAS photoshop for a moment, until I looked again and read the description XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

enigmatia In reply to Nikrain [2010-02-13 00:35:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh haha, well the gravity I say is impossible, not because of the slant, but because her purse is on an angle to the floor, when it should be going directly down like her antennae-accessories The slant wasn't intentional when I drew her, and I wasn't prepared to crease the paper in the scanner to make it perfectly even so I left it as is.

On Photoshop? XD Haha, yeah, I think the pure whiteness of the background did it for ya, but that was what I used to edit it to make it that way to look crisp like that.

Thank you for the comment Yours is one of the few that I get that actually have more than just "cool" or "pretty". It makes it feel like my artwork is a lot more than just that, and I thank you for that

Wow! This is simply AMAZING! I really really love how you captured Zima. *Right click and saves* I really think you did better this time, and I do agree with Twisty that you did her eyes justice. It is really well done.

I think you made her look really well regarding her body, it's very natural and quite flattering. I do think the gravity is a little wonky since she should have the right foot forward so she doesn't trip in her shoes as well as her body more upright than leaned back.

I do enjoy this, I really think you did a better job on her this time. I can't get over how nice she looks in traditional art! It's so pastel like and very flattering! I'd like to see more of this.

I honestly do like the purple on her, she usually wears color coordinated clothes with her eyes, like you said black and pink but I think purple really is flattering as well. It goes well with pink.

Beautiful work as always! I seriously love how you drew her. ^^

Yeah, agreeing on the gravity I still think I need to work on drawing figures themselves though, I've drawn too many flat looking things

Aww (: Hehe. I think I did better with this too. I look now and I see where I f'd up the colouring on this though, especially going over it with dark grey.

Ah, the purple is very wrong though for her personality, I know D: It was a REALLY nice pencil though. I don't have a packet of the same pencils, I have a pencil case of random brands and types collected over the years. The purple pencil is my favourite

Thank you I'm glad you think so. She's my only reason why I draw her like this.

Don't worry about it, you'll get better, it's not too much of a big deal!

Ahh you think purple is too mundane for her personality or something?? But it is a nice color nonetheless!

No problem. ^^

Alright, bad as each other XD I got round to it now because you haven't been online. By the way, I've meaning to ask how you're going (: Are you any better yet? I've almost gotten over my cold, and I redid my voice meme. I sounded really mumbly the first time so I really wanted to fix that. It's hard to tell I've got a cold anyway, but I think now everyone thinks I talk nasal most of the time.

Well, yeah! She's saucy, and lilac doesn't scream it. It's not the right combination of loud and sensual - maybe sensual, but not funky enough for Zima. It seems more of an attire she'd wear if she was out on a quiet evening, like not to draw much attention to herself.
.. I think I might have got her personality wrong there, I don't know.

The lines look very smooth, and the shading is magnificent. I can see you really worked with colors on this one, and it's a good blend <3

Thanks though I figured if I can put different shaded colours on a digital piece effectively, why not have a go with traditional? It's neat.

The antennae yah, lovely design. She was the first to have this kind of long antennae, I've become to be aware

You've never coloured like that in pencil before! Or at least I don't remember.

When you asked me to take it out of the scanner I looked at it and I was like, 'WOW!'

You are good at traditional art! Do more!

Yeah, I noticed the gravity thing. I first thought, 'How is she standing in that position on a slope?'
Well you could say that the planet has weaker gravity.

Your signature looks nice. It matches the picture.

It's really cool how you could do the shading and highlighting in pencil. You made certain things look shiny!

enigmatia In reply to grim-adventures [2010-02-12 12:39:39 +0000 UTC]

See, told ya it was my best

No you didn't, you were annoyed because I made you take it out for me when I honestly could have picked it up myself

Thanks. But I know many more who ace this better than me. You just think I'm great because you haven't seen others do greater, or at least I people in RL.

Ah, it's not a slope intentionally, I drew this picture so it was on a tilt by accident. Like how people write stuff on a slant

Weaker gravity? If that was so, she'd be floating around, dummy. No, I mean't more that it's impossible because her antennae-accessories are going one way and her handbag is going the other way

Like a celebrity signature? I wish! Thanks mate!

The person I drew this for does all that better than me, but thank you

Hey-hey-heeeey The practicing has definitely been worth it!

You have a gorgeous coloring style with pencils, yo! How you make it go from dark to light looks pretty damn good. Always loved that technique, personally.

Zima once again looks absolutely brilliant in your style! As always, the slenderness has me going gaga @w@ The curves look absolutely awesome, and you did her eyelashes a lot of justice I say this because eyelashes in that sort of style seem to be so elusive and hard to...capture? Yeah. Let's go with capture.

Anyway, awesome job on this! I do hope you try to go traditional more often. It looks fab c:

Dang yeah!

Hehe, it's a bit unusual if you ask me - I've been cel-shading for so long this technique here.. it's just kinda weird of me to be frank

I tried my best to do it the way Zimadonna draws them, without reference. I adore the way she draws eyes! Thank you, and with the figure, in this style I don't have much of an excuse because by the general nature of Irkens, they don't seem to favour boobs too much, especially not ones like Zima's xD Same with the curves. I didn't know I had it in me to draw them, because a lot of the characters I draw tend to be skinny, figure-less, little things

Thank you very much for the comment C: I am appalled though that by the number of times you've given me such comments, I haven't given you one yet!
