I will not use deeply considered wording or attempt to sound like an elitist here. A critique, especially for this piece, does not need it. I will say, however, that I purchased a subscription specifically to write for this. Based on the other subjects in this photograph, it is intriguing how young and alone this girl is. She has a remarkable expression, which looks to me like she is lost deep in thought. Her face translates that she is daydreaming so heavily as if she has forgotten where she is...or she is struggling to escape mentally. It is almost as if she does not know the purpose for being there, or perhaps resents it. The colour separation does a great job differentiating the focus. The older men are all clean pressed in blue/black, but the younger focus is in casual green. The red ribbons in her hair really get set off with the matching ribbon pinned to her chest. The dark blue tone sets the mood corresponding with her attitude which may be just as important as her expression itself. I do not feel it is especially technical or planned out (it seems like a quick shot, which in this case it would have to be...so it is more of a compliment), but it was definitely framed well and well-timed.
I saw this shot and I double-taked. I immediately dragged it to my collection. It is an incredible photo regardless of timing, planning, vision, technicality, originality, or any means of judgement. Well done, sir.

wow... this piece is incredibly powerful. when i first saw it (without reading the description) i immediately thought "child soldier". i know she's not now, but her face is just so serious, like she has seen too much war and had too many life experiences. this shot combines the innocence of childhood with the harshness of reality. just breathtaking... you wouldn't mind if i wrote poem about this, would you?

In comments i've read many quastion about who is this girl, does she soldier, what she represent and etc.
No, she is not a soldier ofcouse, and uniform she wear was used during WW2. It's like a flashback. Behind her we can see a real veterans of this war, and they were in her age than were fighting and it's realy frightening and then we are looking at this small brave girl we should understand how awfull the war is and do our best for not repeat it and we should remember it forever!
Thank you for this great shot! You managed to cought ideal moment, absolutely great composition! And i kindly ask you to read a Boris Vasiliev's book....emm i don't realy know english name of this book (if it exist) in russian it names "A zori zdes' tihie"("And the daybreaks here are silent" - something like this i hope) if you find it you'll understand whom this girl personify

Love this shot, the fire is definitely in the girl's heart whereas the veterans don't necessarily have any less - since they were likely there. They're just trading war stories, happy that many are around for the day's parade.

Incredible shot. You are adept at capturing a visual contrast, not in light and dark, but in an older generation, and a newer generation, both seemingly instilled with patriotism. I love this.
