Recently I was rejected from a manga club due to the fact that I don't draw manga. Yes, two people, who cant even draw half as good as I were trying to tell me what my art is. I just wish people would read more non-mainstream works. T__T Anyway, it's a re-paint of my picture from April.Related content

Well yeah, I guess that this counts more as semi-realism, if not almost realism ;u; but sweetie, let me tell you, you just amaze me each time with your arts, you are a brilliant artist, I love your coloring technique so muuuuch uugh it saddens me that I'll never manage to pull it off like you, dammit heheh.
The lighting it's absolutely wicked and the lines are so expressive, not to mention the beautiful contrast and blue tones are creating such mysterious and fascinating atmosphere. I love it so so much. Each time I am so embarrassed to even talk to you, because you are such a fantastic artist and I should really do my best and learn from your gorgeous work and get better so that I'll be worthy enough to talk to you :,I <3

It wasn't about that particular picture. The only requirement was to have at least 5 quality manga pictures in gallery. Only 3 pieces in my gallery are more into realistic concept art-like style. The thing I like the most in manga is the diversity of art-styles (this book is rly eye-opening [link] ). Unfortunately you can't notice that if you insist on reading Naruto/Bleach (I'm Narutard by the way, nothing wrong abt Naruto XD). No, it's not because it's fan art. I still think it's manga, even though it lacks basic "trademarks" of mainstream style. More like Inoue Takehiko and Ryoichi Ikegami. I would call your style stylized realism. I like it a lot, you have a great gallery, but I would never want to draw like that. I'm aiming at something more-less like -[link] . In fact I've recently read an amazing article in one of Polish manga magazines, and the author stated manga style doest even exist. But I bet he is one of those people born in the 80s and have that experience of reading works of Katsuhiro Otomo or Masamune Shirow.

Well, I'd be the first to admit that my experience with manga is anything but extensive--I've read two or three, watched a couple of animes, and am constantly bombarded with it on this site. To be honest I wouldn't have called anything in your gallery manga except the oldest three--I wouldn't have called the example you showed me manga either, although some of the others in that same gallery were...but you're obviously so much more knowledgeable than me, so I guess I've learned something 
By the way, thanks for the faves as well. Much appreciated. As you can see I think that whatever your style is, it's pretty awesome, so I've added you to my devWATCH

If I were in your position, If I were a bystander watching only DA's front page I would feel exactly the same XD! "Kawaii desu" (well, general shojo-shonen) style is probably the most recognizable form of manga. It's the reason so many people love manga in general. When you think of it, it's better to have categorized product with clear message. However ,the people who rejected me from that club, considered themselves fans. And I'd expect better from them. If I were a teenager today, or a tweenager, I would probably be reading books from best sellers list, like Twilight or HP. And I would think of them as masterpieces, because I never had a chance to hear about Faust or Lolita ( assuming I would be too busy reading twilight under my desk on English literature). I believe it's the same with manga, my writing is pretty chaotic, but oh well XD. Zerochan is a gallery, where you post manga fan work. O__O oh, thank you! Do you plan on going to art college? You're only 17 and already so skilled.

Also I no longer have any idea what qualifies as manga...I knew there were more variations than just the shojo-shonen style but if your work also qualifies I'm quite lost

Just for the record I don't think my style is better or superior to the one from typical shojo or shonen. XD I'm not self-centred. One of my best friends is studying interior design, it's really interesting. But you'll still have a chance to draw, but probably more technical drawings. Good luck with your studies than : D!
