Description Antinous according to a book we own (rather hefty one from the Folio Society) was the "boyfriend" of Emperor Hadrian (who fought the Romans by going over the Alps w/ elephants on skis...ok, only true die hard fans of Eddie Izzardwill understand what I'm talking about) whose premature death (drowned in the Nile) which created a cult like fascination with him. Why? Well, he looks like a hunk (of marble) to me...

Beautiful statue...from our recent mini-trip to Paris (Louvre) and Versailles.

The shoot is perfect - so is the statue, but you're mistaking Hadrian to Hannibal.

oh, hadrian is my favourite roman emperor. and not only, because he had such a cute boy-toy. he was obviously gay, because he hated his wife sabina and had no once sex with her. he also traveled a lot, f.e. to egypt, where his antinoos drownd in the Nile or was sacrificed or murdered.
so sad!!!!!!
hadrian was so upset, that he builded a city on the place where his darling died - Antinoupolis. he made Antinoos a god and dedicated him cults, temples and statues.
i love his statues. there are a lot more in the athen national museum. i could stand hours and hours and only stare...
yeah, i'm obsessed of the ancient greek.

Emperor Hadrian couldn't get over his death so he made him a God after his death, that way he would leave for ever, or something like that, its actually a pretty tragic story.

Lovely, but beware: Izzard was talking about Hannibal, not Hadrian.

It was lovely in real life...made me wonder how much of an idealization vs. realism it is of the person
