Description Finally! I've been meaning to do something like this for quite some time, and I finally did it! Portraits of all six Irusein all together, side by side. Someday I hope to do a full-body group photo with these guys...maybe when they stop changing their outfits so much and just decide on what they want to wear, already! Yes, my characters all have minds of their own (and some are very opinionated!).

Anyway. These guys have been lurking around in my sketchbooks for several years now, since...I dunno...2006, maybe...? 2007? Around that time. You might recognize a few of them, though they have certainly been evolving since their initial creation.

They are ordered from youngest to oldest. Starting at the top left:

Byra - naive, impulsive, and generally good-natured
Yvei - somewhat morose, and very analytical
Zirian - highly creative and curious, but also very introverted
Cyrai - honest (sometimes brutally so), and highly adaptable
Akaari - somewhat stoic and aloof, very intelligent
Xeraphin - eccentric, occasionally sadistic and difficult to predict

Each one was born from the dreams/nightmares of different individuals, but they share the common trait of having one parent being a high-level demon (who have yet to be introduced here). They also have their own individual alternate dream/nightmare forms, which I hope to introduce at some point as well. I won't review everything about the Irusein here, as that would take too long.

These characters inhabit a 'grey area' between good and evil, and while they have their core personalities, they are still easily influenced by the psyches of any individuals who encounter them (some more easily than others). They each have their own special, highly-individualized 'space' within the Dreamworld. They will occasionally venture into the mortal realms, but whether they are harmful or helpful depends on who they encounter. Perhaps they, like some demons, may be persuaded or 'employed' for various purposes. Or perhaps they might fight on your side if you can prove yourself to them first.

They are also not bound to any particular time period or dimension (dreams and nightmares are funny like that), so it might be interesting to experiment with tossing these guys into different worlds and/or eras. Feel free to shout out any you might want to see (that includes fandoms)!

i like how you start with a cute smile and end with a creepy one (cute to some i guess >_>)
not to mention an elaborate mythos for them, it'd be interesting to see your take on demons.

The way I see it, there are a lot of different types of demons. These guys aren't quite 'true', or pure demons in the typical sense, I think. Each one has only a single demon parent. Irusein are spawned from a demon and the dream/nightmare projection of a mortal, as they sleep. As it is, they are a little more unstable, physically and mentally (they are unable to reproduce, themselves, for instance), and a complete, fully-sentient humanoid Irusein is actually fairly rare - more often than not, they are just particularly powerful creatures that inhabit their realm. Irusein will often carry traits of their demon parent and the individual whose dream/nightmare they were created from, but they are also influenced by mortal psyches when they come into contact with them. Cyrai might be the most dramatic example, copying an individual's shape, or mirroring their inner self.

So while these guys may not be 'true' demons, they can be just as dangerous, if not moreso, in some respects. On the other hand, they can be quite valuable to have as allies.

you really have the Irusein thought out.
When you say they carry traits from their parent do you mean that of appearance, behavior, or ability?
They probably carry traits from the dream/nightmare they were created from too, right?

It varies, but yes to both. Byra for instance was born from a Void/Emptiness demon and the dream/nightmare of a thief. He is rather like a playful little thief, stealing (and sometimes devouring) memories (and the occasional trinket), and he carries a piece of the Void inside his body. The chains on his body also cannot be removed, though he is still able to be surprisingly quiet when he wants to be. Perhaps a little ironically, he can actually be somewhat forgetful, himself, and he's the one who most often wanders into the mortal world.

I'm likening that character, and his irony. Sound like some one who will occasionally get into trouble.

Yeah. He often gets into trouble. ^_^ And it's usually Akaari that ends up going after him whenever he does.

Heh ^_^', this is one of does thing i can probably keep asking questions, I'm always curious about the worlds, lore, and races that people create.

Yup. Rescue, then maybe a bit of scolding afterwards. Those two probably have the closest relationship of the six.

And I don't mind. Since I do hope to develop these characters more...so questions are fine.

Heh, I'm guessing he probably forgets about the scolding and gets into trouble again. So how did the six of them come together?

Ok, I just dint want to seem like I was asking to many questions.

Yes. It doesn't help that he's pretty easily distracted as well ("ooh, look, something shiny!"). As for how they all got together, I still haven't quite worked it all out yet. I'm still trying to figure out the parents, for some of them.

Heh, not seem like I was asking to many question, I am asking to many question. Wrong choice of words I guess.

Yes. He's the first one I created, all those years ago, so I know him best.

your fist characters are usually the one's you know the best, probably because you've been with them the longest, they are also some time's your most favorite too.
Would he also be the main character for your story, or is it more of an ensemble.

Enothar In reply to ThroneSeeker [2013-01-15 03:05:25 +0000 UTC]

It would depend on the story. Or series of stories. If it centers around these characters, it might be him, or Akaari, or any of them, really (the story would be rather different, depending on who's telling it, after all). On the other hand, a story could be told from the perspective of someone (or a group of people) who encounter them. Like my other character, Torin (a former mage's assistant), who accidentally got physically sent to their world, but subsequently became a total (albeit harmless) lunatic, even though he did manage to get back home (with a little help).

neet, so your thinking of doing short story, or even comic about about separate stories involving one or more characters. In ether there point of view or the perspective of the people they interact with as ether helpful or harmful entities.

Maybe, yeah. I don't know where to start or what sort of plot(s) there would be, though. Heh.

There is so many ways you can start a story that it can get complicated, but I think having ideas and slowly fitting them in like a puzzle is a good way to start, and as far as I know it seems like you already have some ideas going, Torin for example.
