They can appeal to a demographic--young males who don't give a hoot about Hannah Montana or Zac Efron but think Iron Man and the like is the best thing ever--they currently don't serve.
In other words, more eyeballs more often. That's what Disney's been after since the beginning.

I wish Disney could put more emphasis on their original cartoon characters (ex: Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc.) rather than those crappy shows, maybe that way Disney could earn a little more respect.
still, I don't see Disney buying Marvel as an entirely bad thing. you never really know what could happen.

Those "crappy" shows are making Disney a ton of money, which allows them to buy the likes of Marvel, which quite likely gains them a larger share of viewers, which in turn generates more profit.
As for emphasizing the original characters, they may well do that again in the future; these things ebb and flow. But I wonder how many up-and-coming animators want to work on the old-school stuff. Mickey is older than their grandfathers!

It's not about respect, brah...it's about money. Kids are retards and buy into ANYTHING, and parents are spineless and buy their kids merch for the things they buy into; this is why they keep pissing out Jonas Brothers and Zack and Cody stuff. Nothing wrong with that - they're a business doing what businesses were meant to do.

Dude, Warner buying DC has Batman currently fighting gorillas on velociraptors by teaming up with a stretchy ex-gangster and it is awesome. The worst thing Disney would do is a few gag comics. The best thing would be the Avengers in Kingdom Hearts 3. And that would be fucking awesome.
