Description
Here is an Omniblade I modeled and textured for some upcoming VFX work I am working on.Not a lot of good references out there so this is about the best I could do.

I'm curious as to how you set up your textures / materials. How did you do it?

First I did a regular UV map, then I colored the edges I wanted to show up white and added some fuzziness to them. I used that for the transparency map and then set the diffuse to an orange/yellow color and made the edges more yellow using the same texture as the inverse of the transparency. Then I set the ambient color of the material all the way up to white, and added a light glow.

I would suggest a glare-shader for your render to give a more realistic effect for the glow. If you're using something I'm familiar with, I'd be more than happy to link you the process.
