Description Recently, I read a comment about the article in Popular Photography "The Freshman" in a forum, stating that it was kind of "unfair" to give me credit for my photography as I live in a place that has so many beautiful locations, that it was hard not to produce images like mine.

I kind of agreed, but I have also found that I photograph locations that are within walking distance of my house, just with the idea of photographing locations that are not National Parks, or things that are by default beautiful without much effort on my side.

This tree is one I always pass by when I do my routine drive from home to my daughter's school, and then to my office. I love the tree because it has character, the problem is the tree cannot be reached closer as there is a fence, and I wouldn't want to trespass. Now everyday, I would take a look at the tree, but the background always bothered me. This particular day, there was a layer of fog which somehow muted the background, and I could finally take a photograph of the tree that I liked. It is one of my favorites now.

This is an amazing shot! I just had to ask (I have a feeling the answer will be no, hence the reason there isn't a download link) but can I use this in one of my pictures? Of course full credit for this will go to you and links and such will be put in the description.

I found this image when looking for ideas for a family tree tattoo. This image is perfect in my opinion.

I do agree with you, beauty can be found anywhere, you just have to look and wait for the right moment. I have found as much beauty in a seasonal stream in a city on the prairies as I have in the wild of the Rocky Mountains. Well shot!

In response to your artist comment.. Don't let comments like that interfere with your art. You are the photographer, and no matter how beautiful the subject, it takes a skilled mind and heart to capture essence.
I congratulate you on this entry and have added it to my favorites. Take care and keep up the good work.

Hah I pass by that same tree everday too but I have never seen it look as stunning at the way you captured it though.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

enunez In reply to seaj [2007-12-23 04:24:24 +0000 UTC]

Just make sure to pass it by when it gets foggy around the coyote hills area. The fog helps a lot to subdue the background, and make the tree standout a lot. Actually now, there is yellow mustard field which can make it interesting as well.

Thanks a lot for the comments, I really appreciate it.

Fog = fun! Except when you are driving. Sadly for me, I always seem to be unavailable when the fog comes by.

the fog just frames the whole background scene. You are quite lucky to be there.

do not care what people say, as long you know that you are right.

meh
I mean, I've only recently been interested in photography...
but come on, you can't simply give spirit to a picture by pointing and clicking at "good looking" stuff...

anyways
this picture looks great
and the fog gives an eerie feeling
yet it remains conforting

That's a very unfair thing for those people to say; two photographers may be presented with exactly the same subject but there's no gaurantee that the images will look the same. You may live in a beautiful area, but ultimately it is you who decides how the photo will look; you have the responsibility of composition, lighting, exposure etc. Somebody with no concept of exposure can just click their camera at the subject and no doubt it will be washed out and composed poorly. This is why I feel that you should still ultimately take the credit for your wonderful photographs because you make them pleasing.

Lovely tree, by the way. It truly does have character.

Thanks for your kind words. I totally agree with you, even 2 good photographers standing one next to each other come with different interpretations of the same scene. Each has his/hers own vision. Thanks again for the faves!

Like you, most of my photography these days is done around the area where I live. I do quite well with my photos even though Frankland is a very small Australian farming town. I find the time of day and weather conditions have a lot to do with whether or not I'm going to get a good shot or not. So I cannot see the reasoning behind the comment you read in the magazine.
