Description Hey guys, I'm here today with my picks for the best girls of the Goth subculture who embrace the macabre side of life in the best way they can. So without further adieu let's get started.

10. Twyla from Monster High. Twyla is introduced as the daughter of the Boogey Man and doesn’t mind being unpopular or being in the shadows, just because she is shy doesn't mean she's not happy in her own way. In "13 Wishes" she shows us what a loyal friend she is to Howleen and how she is there to ground her over the top personality with soem down to earth advice. Later on in the flim Twyla even makes friends with Cleo after she's wished to the bottom of the social ladder. Also she played a major role in "Haunted" by using her dad's boogey sands to turn her ghoulfriends into ghosts so they could help Spectra infiltrate Haunted High. Out of all the girls at Monster High I believe that Twyla truly embraces the macabre element better than anyone else.

9. Gazlene “Gaz” Membrane from Invader Zim. Cynical and completely apathetic Gaz demonstrates her love of the darkness and how unwilling she is to conform to societal norms. Since her father is constantly working usually her and Dib are left on their own to fall into their own misadventures, sometimes reluctantly joining in with Dib to get proof of Zim being an alien. Although Gaz and Dib’s relationship is one fueled by animosity towards him as seen in “Enter the Florpus” she still does hold some form of love for her brother.

8. Samantha “Sam” Manson from Danny Phantom. Ah Sam, Danny’s love interest who ultimately got her wish. Sam is the only girl at Casper High that doesn’t fall into the archetype of being obsessed with pretty. Along with her strict ultra-recyclo vegetarian lifestyle including soy milk and tofu ice cream. As demonstrated in the beauty pageant episode Sam does the bravest thing she’s ever done and signs up for Dora’s pageant despite her clear objections. She reminds us that she's Danny's friend first before she wanted to be with him. Sam has proven time and time again to be a very capable ghost hunter and "no pushover" in her own words. She also knows when her male friends are acting immature and to act as the realist. In the end she and Danny confess their feelings to each other including the infamous "Wes" ring. They share a kiss and proves that unlike Paulina or Valerie she loves Danny as a friend first but as a soulmate too.

7. Gwen from Total Drama. Gwen started off TDI by being the cynical goth girl stereotype that eventually grew as a character throughout the season, and eventually the whole series. In the first season she spent most of her time being cynical and keeping to her self and most of her block points revolved around loathing Heather, being infatuated with Trent, being friends with Leshawna or being annoyed by Cody. She was probably the character who grew as a character the most during the first season. TDA, was probably her weakest performance. After being split on opposite teams in "Alien Resurr-eggtion" Trent began to get jealous and paranoid about her and Duncan being together, this eventually leads to Gwen ending the relationship and provoking his elimination promising Justin, Beth, Lindsay and Owen a victory, and after sabotaging her team her time was up. In TDWT she got a lot of controversy for kissing Duncan effectively ruining his and Courtney’s relationship and becoming “new Heather” but I was on her side of the issue up until her Australian departure, she even managed to get back on friend terms with Trent. Now All-Stars was Gwen’s (currently) last season and she went in with a goal of making things right with Courtney. At first it seemed karma was unfairly served as she was deemed a villain. Her relationship with Duncan self-destructed after he obsessed over Courtney and Gwen managed to turn a corner with Courtney although she began acting OOC but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. All the while she made worthwhile attempts to make friends with the TDROTI cast primarily Cameron and Zoey which ultimately spared her from flying ballooned away. In the end I guess Gwen thought she didn’t deserve Courtney’s friendship when it was her who didn’t deserve Gwen’s friendship. Either way she got a happy ending and I still like her.

6. Misery from Ruby Gloom. A severely underrated character from a severely underrated cartoon.  The shows breakout character and for good reason. First of all Misery lives up to her name being a bad luck magnet constantly being struck by lightning, breaking glass and having relatives thta contributed and were present in all historical disasters. She has suffered from so much misfortune it no longer bothers her and she always takes it in stride. Misery is also loyal to her friends and will always do her best to help, although the results usually end up with something being broken and/or reduced to ashes. Every moment Misery is on screen is the best she always makes you eager to learn more about her and see what kind of hijinks she and her friends will get up to next.

5. Vanessa Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb. Ah Vanessa, the only girl who wears a black leather outfit during the summer with long sleeves and pants. I found her the most attractive character on the show despite the fact that she left the least skin exposed. The object of Ferb’s affections for good reason in his own words “I was weak.” Vanessa had quite a few guys after her in the series first it was Johnny who was quickly forgotten about, then Monty who I’ll be honest I kinda liked since I thought he had a better chance since he was at least in Vanessa’s age range. But in the end it turns out Vanessa didn’t let something like age stop a relationship and Ferb won her over. Another major factor is her relationship with her dad Dr. Doofenshmirtz, I really loved how they bonded in that episode with the Mary McGuffin doll and in the finale where she confronts Doof on getting that job at OWCA. I’ll never forget how she loves him despite him wearing too much fringe and going out of his way to catch a foul ball but either way they love each other, ‘nuff said.

4. Crimson from The Ridonculous Race. Crimson started off as quiet entering the race with her boyfriend Ennui whom after being together for 3 years they are practically married. Crimson showed she wasn't a conformist and that she'd race her own way. She remained silent until “Bjorken Telephone” where she showed us her affinity for Icelandic music and lack of conforming to ice fossil excavation and in the next episode she made a black carnaval outfit stating how she refuses to lead a sad monotonous life. Once in Transylvania her and Ennui are two kids in a candy store and we actually see her SMILE. Crimson’s biggest character development comes in “I Love Ridonc and Roll” where her makeup melts off and her and Ennui are forced to see each other ungothed and they silently show they still love each other irregardless of how the other looks. Personally I prefer her goth. Her love for Ennui is unquestionable and the way they make a little family with Loki is just great. Crimson proved herself to be a capable competitor and knew better than to stoop to being evil like others (cough.. Josee.. cough.. Jacques..) and she was completely right about them all the time.

3. Lucy Loud from The Loud House. Lucy Lucy Lucy, so dark and yet so intriguing. This 8 year old (9 as of season 5) enjoys the darkness, death and blood. She is my favorite of all the younger sisters due to her elegance and maturity, I always find myself wanting to know more about her. The relationships she has with her siblings are major. In "Spell it Out" she teaches them all a lesson about treating her poorly and they all realize the error of their ways and treat her better later on. In "Sleuth or Consequences" she displays a new hobby and her and Lincoln are able to bond closer together by him taking the blame to protect her. Lucy also demonstrates how close her and Lincoln’s relationship is in “A Grave Mistake” When she’s on her own she’s capable of being independant and although she embodies death and funerals she’d never say yes to violence. In the episode “Head Poets Anxiety” was where Lucy not only bonded with Luan but got her chance to shine as she found the courage to face her stage fright at the theatre and how much she looks up to Luan. Lucy also demonstrates how she isn't going to conform to being normal in "Back in Black" she is apathetic and macabre and that's completely her choice which her sisters all accept. All in all Lucy is a great character brimming with personality and although she may embrace the afterlife her heart is entirely pure.

2. Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice. For the record here I am counting both versions of Lydia. The live action Winona Ryder version and the animated Alyson Court version. I credit Lydia for starting the trend of modern day goth girls with her undying apathy. I’ll be honest she lost a few points when she contemplated suicide in the middle of the movie but luckily she changed her mind and decided to help the Maitlands transition to the afterlife. In the series her and Beetlejuice have great comeraderie together, obviously not in a romantic sense but he helps her with getting away from her overly sappy mother Delia who always encourages her to be happy, although it clearly isn’t her style. Overall, Lydia has inspired many young girls and I’ve even heard of women naming their daughters after Lydia, so the character has grown to be an inspiration throughout the last 33 years.

1. Raven from Teen Titans. Ok honestly, who were you expecting for #1? Who else could I even choose? She’s a hero but she’s the spawn the demon Trigon which causes her a lot of conflict both with him and with herself fighting her inner demons mostly brought to life in the nightmare episode and throughout the course of the series. Trigon was never a good parent to her not to mention her strained relationship with her mother Arella and she admits that although she is demonic her heart is purely heroic. Using her trademark “Azarath Metrion Zinthos” to conjure spells to combat villains showcasing her impressive fighting skills. Not to mention her outfit consisting of a purple cloak and a black leotard that shows off her legs is a turn-on for so many. Along with Slade showing Raven her ultimate fear of her power becoming something she can't control which will lead to her destroying everyone and everything she loves. Not to mention I LOVE the chemistry between her and Beast Boy, he’s constantly immature and reckless but despite her sharp attitude she doesn’t deny how she feels about him. Overall, Raven is the dark queen of goth girls everywhere and we should all appreciate what a strong female character she truly is.

{Honorable Mentions}

Maddie Flour (Amphibia) - She’s a good all around character with her pursuit of the dark arts and interactions with Sprig, Marcy and her triplet sisters. I just don’t see many reasons how she stands out like the girls in the list.

Ingrid Third (Fillmore) - Ingrid is definitely my fav character in the show and her and Fillmore's partner chemistry is great, I just wish she had a bit more personality.

Juleka Couffaine (Miraculous Ladybug) - Juleka is awesome at embracing the darkness and being goth, but even so she's not evil unless she's Reflekta. She just doesn't stand out as much as I want her too.

Clair (Monster High: Ghouls Rule) - Clair fits into MH better than her normie human high school New Salem High and her and Jackson are pretty good together but I only had room for 1 MH character on this list.

Haiku (The Loud House)
- Don’t get me wrong she serves as a great best friend to Lucy, but when it comes to character, Lucy just has more of it whereas she's mostly just along for the ride.

April Ludgate (Parks and Recreation) - April would definitely make the list if it was live action. She's not technically goth but with her personality and charm she may as well be. Aubrey Plaza was born to play her.
